In terms of Jones, I'd love to have a better coach. Do I think its likely to happen....50/50 at best. I'm not sure another coach could come in and take this school higher than what we've seen...consistently the best CUSA school with a chance at tourney bid. If there is someone out there, I'm all for it.
"Consistently the best CUSA team" is utter BS. They may have the best record over a period of time, and you may be able to say they are the most consistent team in CUSA, but they have only been the best team once.

I judge the best team over 30 games, not 3 days in the middle of nowhere.
Judge however you like, they've only been the best team once.

Middle tenn st was consistently the best team in the league year after year
After year and Kermit Davis consistently took Jeff’s lunch money and gave him noogies and swirlies in the toilet.

If you believe the team that wins the tournament is always the best team, that is your right to believe that.

I’d rather be second place reg season (ie: not the best) and win the tourney for the NCAA bid. Better yet, be in a conference where first place gets you in the tourney.

I am not even saying that. There is no reasonable way to evaluate CUSA during our time in it and conclude that we have been the best team in the conference consistently.

So they both crawled over to Hampton huh....interesting.

Lets get a game with them next year.

so who do we have coming in next year that can start to turn this team around? A BIG man (6'9'+), a shooter at any position, anybody that can shoot 70%+ from the FT??? This program is going nowhere and the future is getting darker the longer JJ stays here!

Next year is looking pretty bleak. We have O'Connell coming in, who I think could be a good player, but who I also think has about a 0% chance of getting enough minutes to make an impact as a freshman on a JJ team, and nothing else so far. A lot of us, myself included thought we would be very good next year, that has been completely blown up since pretty much all of the assumptions that went into that belief have completely fallen apart.

Dickens would be vastly improved and be a force in the post (fail)
Ezikpe would be a dominant type big man (partial fail)
Godwin would be a guy who hit every open three and score double figures (fail)
Green would be a CUSA POY type of player (likely fail).
Reece would be a significant weapon (We will see. He has the talent)

We are left with basically the same team coming back next year, minus two players we expected to be pretty good, with the same gaping holes we have on this 6-11 team. The front court holes may be even bigger with the loss of Carver, who sadly is a significant piece with the current state of the team.

This team will be no better than last year's team unless Green takes a gigantic leap, Wade develops a jumper to the three point line, Ezikpe is good enough to be a focal point of the offense, and the big Greek recovers from his knee problems and becomes a guy who can be a legit starting caliber post player.

Yes there are some scholarships open, but the chances of us filling them with a player at the positions we need (Bigs) who can actually be a difference maker are next to zero. Let's face it, there are not a ton of good transfer bigs out there, and if they are good, they are getting scooped up by P5 teams.

RE: Godwin transfers - EverRespect - 01-17-2020 12:02 PM

We are in what, year 7? We have yet to enter a season without major question marks and have yet to enter a summer without having to scramble for JUCOs and grad transfers. Best we can hope for under this regime is to cobble together enough band aids to win a schit conference for a 14/15 seed. ODU basketball is no longer a "program" with any sort of identity. It is a "team" that goes into each year trying to find a new identity. No way JJ would have lasted this long without the Stith nepotism. Guessing he has one more year. He was coming off a 10-21 year when we hired him for a reason.

RE: Godwin transfers - ODUODUODU - 01-17-2020 12:29 PM

This team lost to a JMU team that is currently 7-10. Does it get any worse?
