Quote:One such bill is SB 18 Firearms; which includes language associated with criminal history record information checks, and most importantly age requirements with regard to handling firearms.

State Senator Dick Saslaw of Fairfax County introduced the obtuse bill in the spirit of Ralph Northam, who managed to secure the role of Governor within the state.

These two individuals are far from your “moderate” Democrat, but rather more in tune with the fringe ideology that has somehow usurped party staples in favor of perceived social justice and attempted approaches of curbing of crime via the methods of restricting constitutional rights and putting law abiding citizens in harms way.

Under this bill, it will be a class 1 misdemeanor to allow a child to use firearms, unless “under parental supervision.”

Essentially what this bill means is that in the event your child is in danger, regardless of their age and knowledge of handling firearms properly, any criminal who has the intent to do them harm can do so and they’ll be left helpless from a legal standpoint.

When someone is engaged in the fight for their life, he who carries the proverbial bigger stick is poised to overcome, and these lawmakers want to make your child a victim.

The bill does not even bother to take into consideration whether the child has adequate firearm training or if the child is 17-years-old. The law simply instructs parent and guardian to lock away every firearm in their absence; thus, leaving the fate of the child to the mercy of any burglars who decides to pay your home a visit while the parent is away.

There’s simply no logic being applied with regard to the bill being proposed, and there’s no reason why a competent minor cannot use a firearm to protect their life.

There are plentiful instances of children as young as 11-years-old, standing their ground and using weapons against burglars in the absence of the parent.

Under the proposed bill, such acts of heroism will be outdated and parents will be risking facing misdemeanor charges simply because they taught their child to protect themselves rather than be a victim and a headline in the next days newspaper.

If the bill passes, parents will have to decide whether to risk facing criminal charges for affording their children the ability to protect themselves or gamble with the lives of their children in the event that calamity strikes when they’re not around.

Not to mention, the sheer audacity at the notion that a child aged 17 is somehow too juvenile and not allowed to use a firearm to defend themselves because their parents weren’t in site is preposterous.

There’s a huge difference between common sense gun related laws, and one’s that put our most vulnerable in danger.

Governor BlackFace wants to ensure that if a child survives and abortion attempt, that they get their comeuppance during another assault on their lives.

Northam and the Dems in Virginia are very scary. The disconnect he has to most Virginians, especially rural Virginians is an understatement. The 2A Santuary movement here is a response to their lunacy. It is almost like they are daring law abiding citizens who carry firearms to start a conflict. Hopefully the courts bring sanity back to Virginia with a ruling that will defeat the dems and their gun confiscation legislation. I can assure you that rural Virginia is not California and many here would act if pinned against the wall.

The suburbs of DC in Northern Virginia comprise a large population area and are mainly Democrat commuters that work in DC. They now control the elections in the state. Whenever an election is held the Republican is typically in the lead up until the Northern VA region's results come in (they are usually among the latest to finalize) and then the result swings over to the Democrat.

If our governor and lieutenant governor had been Republicans and had done what these two have done (blackface/KKK, sexual assault) the constant outcry from the media would have forced both of them to resign. It is yet another strong indication of Fake News Political Media Bias in this country.

I live in far Western Virginia, and it is completely different from Northern Virginia. I agree that people around here will not stand for this stuff. The values of folks here, and the values of folks there are not compatible.

Up until now, the dems in VA have pretty much respect the others and left these issues mostly alone. Even Estrogen Tim Kaine didn't push a particularly left wing agenda as governor. Blackface pushed to the far left. Hopefully it will backfire, but at least in Hampton Roads, which used to be reliably GOP, it turned on the legacy of Bob McDonnell and his toll roads tied to the GOP. Gonna take a generation or two to get over that guy. Direct hit in the wallets of 2 million regular people.

Hopefully, they come to their senses quicker... Below is section 13 of the Virginia Bill of Rights and 44-1 of the code of Virginia. It should stand up in court against gun confiscation, etc..but who knows....

Virginia bill of rights and the Virginia Law Code...

Section 13. Militia; standing armies; military subordinate to civil power.

That a well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the proper, natural, and safe defense of a free state, therefore, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; that standing armies, in time of peace, should be avoided as dangerous to liberty; and that in all cases the military should be under strict subordination to, and governed by, the civil power.

and.....

§ 44-1. Composition of militia.

The militia of the Commonwealth of Virginia shall consist of all able-bodied residents of the Commonwealth who are citizens of the United States and all other able-bodied persons resident in the Commonwealth who have declared their intention to become citizens of the United States, who are at least 16 years of age and, except as hereinafter provided, not more than 55 years of age. The militia shall be divided into three classes: the National Guard, which includes the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard; the Virginia Defense Force; and the unorganized militia.
