As usually, JJ lost another recruit. First he lost Saint Thomas (3 star) freshman and now he lost a 4 star JUCO to Little Rock. I hate looking at the ODU board, because my hopes always get frustrated. Maybe ODU should not list players we recruit, until they sign with ODU.

WTF does losing a recruit mean?

We put out offers to 50 kids. We may sign 3. Does that mean we hit on 6% of recruits? How does that differ from any other coach?

No, it means JJ can't recruit much higher than a 2 star and below, occasionally maybe a 3 star. Things at ODU are not going to change, until we get a coach who savvy if, to convince high school seniors that this Scholl and personality is good enough for them.

Jadin Johnson-3
Charles Smith- 3
Imo-Essien- 3
Long- 3
Oliver- 3
Reece- 3
Ezikpe-3
Wade- 3

Might have missed a couple. Almost our entire team is 3 stars.

I am sorry, but the first three are incoming freshmen and maybe (national) Johnson may be 3 star. Long, Oliver and Smith are transfers (not recruited by JJ as a freshmen). Wade yes, but Reece and Ezikpe were top 2 stars. Reece got so tired of JJ, he left.

Looks occasionally to me.

If all three stars, then why do we have a poor three point shooting, poor foul shooting (except Oliver and Curry (transferred out) and a load of guards like JJ. 15 wins against completion ODU beat, is not 3 star

Reece got tired of "not playing."

Curry got the opportunity to play for a big 12 school.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2021 - BigBlueBobby - 04-17-2021 09:08 AM

I really don't get it! Are you guys anti BIG men (6'10" to 7"+) because you know it will never happen under JJ or do you really think 6'8" and under is better? Every time someone on here mentions our needs for a big man here comes a hundred reasons why we don't need them? Don't say the only big men we can get are project players. That just simply isn't true. The portal is full of them and so is the international market but you have to recruit them in order to get um.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2021 - Gilesfan - 04-17-2021 09:27 AM

Im assuming by big man, you mean a center. We have 4 right now, what is the ideal number of centers on a roster?

That's why there are only 10 or so people on the boards. There used to be many more. Slew of negatively, sniping, name calling, and straight up disrespect for others.
Or maybe it's because all excitement has been sucked out of the two primary programs at ODU.

If you read some of the people on here, they will never be happy anyways. Even during the good times.

Maybe for you it has. I'm looking forward to seeing RR rebuild ODU football with a higher-level recruit and looking forward to seeing how the incoming BB players mesh into a team. I don't think you are alone, but if you're using what some here post to make your argument, I'd hate to have you as my attorney. Remember, maybe 20 people post regularly here.

Gilesfan stop reading my post, like I suggested before. You are a JJ fan and in this morning's VP the Norfolk St. BB coach got a 5 year extension to 2028. Maybe Wood will give JJ another 5 year extension. You can only hope.

We have a dozen of them. It's position-less basketball right? What is the ideal number of guards and small forwards on a roster?

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2021 - Gilesfan - 04-17-2021 10:47 AM

If I was building a team I would have 2 primary ball handlers that play and at least 1 developmental. I would have 2 centers that play with at least 1 developmental. Ideallly I would have a stretch forward. How many other different guards and "forwards" doesn't really matter to me...as long as they can play.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2021 - Old Dom Swag - 04-17-2021 03:02 PM

I read Curry transferred because JJ didn't hug him enough. That's why he went to play for Huggy Bear.

That’s a good philosophy except for the fact JJ doesn’t develop. He lets them rot on the bench.

JJ doesn't show hugs and verbal good game. He just not in his personality. He does know how to embarrass player's, after one bad play. It is okay in practice but not on TV or before fans. This is why JJ does not get any good freshman, in today's game.

We have 1 non player 6'10" and no one else over 6'8". On the other hand, Gonzaga had (2) 7 footers, (2) 6'10" & (1) 6'9". Baylor had (1) 7 footer, (1) 6'10" & (2) 6"9". Finally, UCLA had (4) 6'10"! Thats how you win games. I know we are not any of these schools, just saying stretch players are nice but you gotta have the size under to anchor everything down.

Folks, JJ has lost his third recruit (Chase McKey 6'9 PF to Marshall. This guy is a 2021 incoming, so JJ on big freshmen still holds true. Of the top 48 transfers, who have signed, Charles Smith is not one of them (CBS)
