Making it to the NCAA's and possibly even winning a game is out of the question. This is what JJ has done to this program and its fans. I remember ODU pre JJ and I loved the excitement of having a chance to dance and if not maybe an NIT was in the calling. Now based on our lack of recruiting, we don't stand a chance, not even competitive. I hate to see ODU fall from grace like this.

ODU was literally just in the previous NCAA tournament. Not competitive? They just lost to the champs on their home court in a game they led for 30 minutes. Wow. Now u just make stuff up. You’re obsessed with the coach. It’s quite sad. You blatantly ignore the bigger factors because it helps you sleep at night thinking it’s all just because of one person. Just pointing out facts. I haven’t lost hope. It’s called being realistic and acknowledging the differences between now and then. JJ didn’t put us in a Mickey Mouse league playing conference tournament road games 2000 miles away. At least act like u have a clue. Keep pretending these recruits can’t wait to visit VA Beach. Haha. And play half their conference games in Texas. Give me a freaking break.

Feel free to blame Wood Selig for making a rash decision and Joining CUSA, because playing Florida Mid Atlantic Community College and Texas Agricultural Southwestern Studies University on Stadium network is such a great recruiting tool. Then playing your Conference Tourney halfway across the country in a AAU format for a channel only streamed on the internet helps too.

Everyone knows why the decision was made to join CUSA.

This is can get on board with, but if we had stayed in the CAA, everyone would be complaining that we missed our shot to move up and compete with the big boys. And the CUSA we joined is not the CUSA of today. But we are where we are, so we need to make the best of it. I am not happy with our performance, and I would not be upset if JJ were let go, or if he left on his own for personal reasons. But realistically, JJ is no where near the worst coach in basketball and he is not even the worst coach we have ever had. Things will get better and the same people who criticize JJ will be praising him, or moving the goal posts to continue to be negative. Either that or things won't get better and JJ get's fired and a new coach is hired and we wait and see to see what happens again. Either way I will support ODU and whomever is coaching and playing for us.

The last time I made this point, I was called a Jeff Jones apologist. Lol

"Free Agency" makes it more difficult to form any kind of attachment to the players. A 5 year kid you could kind of get to know, especially with the Blaine inspired breakfasts. Not so much anymore. To a degree the team has become a group of transient of players no one really knows.
Wonder if this will affect ticket sales and/or donations

It won't if a team continues to win.

I agree that the age of having a team consisting of most/all 4-5yr. players is over. If you have a kid stay longer than 2 years (assuming they are an contributing asset to the team), the team is playing with house money at that point.

The breakfasts were great, and Blaine's ability to connect with fans was fantastic. But we all know what happened. Jeff doesnt even do a call in radio show. I guess he's just more of an introvert. Winning will bring in fans regardless, but those little things matter when you're having average and poor seasons.

We still had the breakfast under Jeff Jones. Were they cancelled before Covid?

They weren’t cancelled until covid. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them return next year.

Thats what I thought but thought maybe I was mistaken.

Let’s be honest. BT’s breakfasts gatherings were great! That’s where you would hear about VT coach Greenberg being all hat, no horse and other funny stuff.

Miss that dude. I’m so glad he got it back together and is in coaching again. He was really good.

Does anyone know what Trice, Greene and Kalu are going to do for next season?

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2021 - ODUCoach - 04-03-2021 02:51 PM

We picked up a commit from SMU transfer, Charles Smith IV.

Nice pick up ! He should always have the green light with no hesitation.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2021 - ODU True Blue - 04-03-2021 06:06 PM

With 20-21 not counting he should have 3 years of eligibility, right?

Looks like a good outside threat - with some size - at the two guard position which is something the team needs. Don't know how many scholarships they have open to fill, but hopefully they save one or two for a talented big man.

He has a great last name. I am a fan of this signing.

Charlie Smith in the 80’s was one of my all time favorite Monarchs.

Solid pickup.
