Is he kicked out the team?

Watching the Davidson-AU game on CBS Sports and the bottom scroll had something about a temporary injunction allowing him to play during further "legal proceedings".

Memphis vs UIC about to come on ESPNU.

Yeah, Wiseman's playing.

Wiseman is a beast.

David Robinson 2.0.

Either Memphis did not ask Penny about Wiseman or Penny didn't tell them.

Or both.

From what I've seen, Memphis stated that they told the NCAA all of this in May when Wiseman submitted his paperwork. NCAA didn't say anything about it then but they're now saying he can't play. It's all an interesting situation, and I'm hopeful that they decide to bench him for the game at Bartow.

RE: Same old Memphis... - THE_LEGEND - 11-11-2019 02:47 PM

imagine beating Memphis in Bartow with Wiseman though. don't you want to see an NBA lottery pick playing against our guys?

Now imagine winning the lottery by an alien handing delivering you the winning ticket and simultaneously getting struck by a lightning bolt during a sunny afternoon...

RE: Same old Memphis... - blazerjay - 11-11-2019 04:13 PM

According to Jay Bilas, Memphis is now additionally in violation of NCAA Bylaw 19.13 that deals with what happens if a school or player gets a court order to circumvent an NCAA eligibility order.

Penalty for thumbing your nose at the NCAA by doing that is a post-season ban.

I'm not sure if being the compliance officer in the tiger high athletic dept is the best or the worst job in America.

However, if they DO use Wiseman, then Memphis will likely have to forfeit the win, so that increases our chances of beating Memphis. 03-lmfao03-lmfao

Supposedly, Wiseman will be ruled ineligible following the UAB game. He will then be allowed to play the 2nd semester after transferring to Southern Miss during Christmas break.

In all seriousness, Penny Hardaway has assembled a ridiculously talented group of freshmen. That means Memphis will most likely be put on probation for taking too many players that the blue-blood programs wanted.

If you are recruiting kids from your AAU teams to your high school to play for you. That’s cheating, moreso if you are paying their way to change locations. I’m sure there’s some violations with taking all the kids you’ve built up relationships with while coaching them in High school to play for you in college. Because there’s zero chance that they weren’t all hanging out on days they weren’t supposed to be. You want me to believe they followed the rules in recruiting his former players?

How about the obvious suspicion of tampering with former players who all signed NLIs elsewhere, but you talk them out of going through with it to come play for you instead. Or the former Memphis guys already playing ball elsewhere that you’ve gotten to transfer in.

Zero people believe that penny wasn’t doing shady stuff in order to have Tubby catch a boot, so he could take his place. Shady enough to say, “hey, don’t go to Memphis until they make a coaching change” to his AAU boys.

I don’t feel sorry for the blue bloods but if they are catching flack for cheating, so should Memphis.

Surely you don't think there was any bending or stretching of the rules taking place in Memphis... especially with their basketball program. 03-lmfao

Yep, but I had to take off my Rolex because it bothers me when I type. 04-cheers

I do wish Southern Miss cheated at the Memphis level, though. USM cheats and gets to the NIT. Memphis cheats and loses to Kansas in the NCAA Championship game because they cant make free throws.

Wiseman has withdrawn the lawsuit, and will now sit pending final word from NCAA.

I am wondering why the coaches are not punished by the NCAA.

01-wingedeagle about the donation part.

So he won't be playing the UAB game.

RE: Same old Memphis... - BlazerMatt - 11-20-2019 06:48 PM

The whole Penny thing was shady as hell. NBA level recruits get paid while doing AAU. This isn’t a secret. The shoe companies pay, the college coaches pay, and all of these funds flow through the AAU coaches.
Penny was the AAU coach for several top players, and you have to figure all of them were getting paid, it’s just how basketball works for top recruits, and he was the point of contact for all of it.

At the same time he was working behind the scenes to get the Memphis job, which he gets. Then lo and behold all of these top recruits who he was arranging payment for, recruits who weren’t even giving Memphis official visits, decided to follow there sugar daddy to Memphis.

It’s the very definition of paying recruit to come play for your school, and in this cases it’s not “boosters” doing it, it’s the freaking Head Coach.
