Tennessee - ShrackUAB - 10-26-2019 06:19 PM

Tennessee has been playing pretty well lately. Not sure this is the same Tennessee that lost to Georgia State and BYU earlier in the year.

They're up 20 on South Carolina in the 4th quarter.

ESPN currently gives us a 15.2% chance to win this game.

Here's the rest of the games:

@USM 28.8%
UTEP 92.9%
Louisiana Tech 47.2%
@North Texas 37.2%

Win or lose against us next week aside, wonder if Tennessee will be going to the Birmingham Bowl? 05-hide

RE: Tennessee - biglizard - 10-26-2019 07:23 PM

This was by far the most complete game UT has played in the last 2 seasons. They’re young and starting to figure this stuff out. Pruitt will make sure they don’t overlook us. We’re not exactly the body bag game they thought it would be either. I expect a 60 min war

RE: Tennessee - UABFRENCHY - 10-26-2019 07:53 PM

this gsme is for $$$ only ,,,the game after that are very importan t
waatching UTEP LA tech on espn 3
La tech got a wide open offense but their defense is terrible

I would disagree for 2 reasons. First our schedule has been awful so far this year and our guys have appropriately dispatched everyone except WKU. To go where we want to go games like UT mean something. Secondly if you’re between the lines and knocking heads you ain’t seeing any of that money so might as well plan on winning.

I would agree that the second half of the season starts after UT. La Tech looks like they’re going to be a handful. USM looked very pedestrian against Rice when I was watching them today.

RE: Tennessee - UABFRENCHY - 10-27-2019 11:01 AM

we wont show anything at that game because winning cusa is more important for the progression of that team then beating a bunch of SEC REF
(The defense will get so many pass interference call and the offense will get some many holding call )

the goal for this year is to repeat last year goal

If we win cusa this year , i am expecting to beat anyone outside the the top 10 next year and look to be the best no P5 team and play in january

FYI RECRUITING IS ALMOST DONE FOR 2020

RE: Tennessee - LairDweller - 10-28-2019 07:55 AM

Blazers are 10.5 point dogs

I have seen a few folks on Twitter who are shocked that the line is that big. Maybe they are fooled by the records (or the rankings that have us above them). I am not an SEC apologist by any means, and I certainly don’t think Tennessee is any good. But what do you think their record would be with our schedule? And vice-versa?

I would imagine they would probably be 6-1 or 7-0, and we would likely be 2-5 or 1-6.

I know we want to be an elite G-5 program that competes on the level with the P-5 schools. Last year’s team made definite strides in that direction and went toe to toe with Texas A&M (but still lost by double digits). So far this season there’s no evidence that we are on that same level.

I hope we get a lot of hurt players back on Saturday and come ready to play, and that we prove that we are taking the next step. I would love to get a win in Knoxville, but have no illusion that we are there yet.

RE: Tennessee - LairDweller - 10-28-2019 08:47 AM

yeah, i dont see why people would be shocked by that line.
At one point there was talk of them being 0-8 coming into this week. But in their last 3 weeks they beat Miss State (granted, not a good team), gave Alabama as big a scare as they've had all year, and beat the South Carolina team that knocked off Georgia and scared Florida in back to back weeks.

There's no reason that the line should be any closer than it is

RE: Tennessee - BatesUAB - 10-28-2019 08:58 AM

As mentioned above, the team we play Saturday isn't the team we saw in September. They've really improved. Bad timing for us. As much as I hate to say it, with a 10.5 point line, I'd put my money on the Vols.

RE: Tennessee - Ranger1386c - 10-28-2019 08:59 AM

UTK has a lot of young talent particularly on the LOS. They were starting 2 true freshman at tackle early season. 5 star freshmen but still freshmen. Its mid season. They arent as young anymore and its starting to show in the win column and in the ability to establish a ground game and protect the Qb. They will be prepared for UAB. No sneaking in for a win. We will have to win the LOS to win this game, unless we reap a large harvest of turnovers, and I dont think we are there yet on the offensive line. But Ill be there with the family.

My oldest daughter just received her acceptance letter to the UT school of architecture on Friday, but she is a passionate UAB fan. Should be a fun game.

Article interviewing Josh Zahn about the 2010 UAB v Tenn game.

Glad to hear he's doing ok and not sitting in a basement yelling "LACES OUT!" at the walls somewhere.

RE: Tennessee - uab278 - 10-28-2019 10:31 AM

It sounds like UT got banged up pretty bad against South Carolina on my drive into work this morning. Some keys to the game will be our offensive line getting second level blocks on the linebackers and pressuring whoever plays QB. We get to the QB then I think this game becomes interesting... I will be there thoroughly enjoying the fact I only have to drive 30 minutes.

RE: Tennessee - BlazerGreen - 10-28-2019 11:00 AM

This is not a deep UAB team. I hope we make it through the game with a healthy squad.

RE: Tennessee - josephblazer2770 - 10-28-2019 11:06 AM

Surprised, Its, knot a 25.5 point line with a 100k in the seats and plenty boats hope the Blazers, enjoy the surroundings and play it safe and come home ready to play out the remainder of the Season, plus they will have SEC refs - would mix it up get the jr. going early and often cause Tyler,s throwing time will be reduced and db's will be like white on rice, gonna have to run the draws and fakes right up the middle, If, you can cause; they Blazers will see speed like they have knot seen this year. You aint gonna like to hear this, like Watson told me, you gonna have to run those cut backs on all plays and positions. Watson; Had em beat then, they Got excited and sugared, that won't happen with Coach Clark.

RE: Tennessee - blazertke - 10-28-2019 11:32 AM

I've been looking forward to this one since it was announced and was very optimistic about the match up at the beginning of the season. However, Tennessee has steadily improved and they've got some swagger going into Saturday night. My main concern is we haven't played a team that matches up to UT's size, physicality, etc this year. The good news is we're 6-1 with a chance to repeat as CUSA champs, it's not a must win for us. I'd love to see us compete, keep it within the spread, and possibly walk out with a W. If our defense plays well, TJ makes smart passing decisions, and we establish a run game we have a shot. The margin for error as we've seen before in these types of games is slim. Regardless it's going to be a fun trip for us fans and there's going to be a great atmosphere Saturday night.

RE: Tennessee - THE_LEGEND - 10-28-2019 03:22 PM

this game will probably end up like the Texas A&M game. Lots of UAB kool-aid hype that we have the coach/talent to hang and if we limit turnovers and pressure their QB we might win.

Same things said about Mond last year. Lost by 21 points.

I hope I'm wrong but we don't have the talent/depth to stay with a P5 team this year. Hoping HCBC finds more diamonds in the rough the next couple of years and we start being able to compete though on these buy games.

Yeah...we didn't limit turnovers last year. We literally gave up a TD on a fumble return on our own kick return and were -2 overall.

We got absolutely destroyed on special teams last year which is why the score was lopsided. Repeatedly gave them great field position and of course being -2 on turnovers. And we couldn't stop the run game. Still wasn't exactly a beat down. Both teams had around 400ish yards and 22-25 ish 1st downs. UAB was able to pass effectively on A&M and completed 63% of third down conversions.

They started their touchdown drives on the:

fumble touchdown 4 yardline of UAB
A&M 34
UAB 49
A&M 30
A&M 46

UAB started all of our drives on the:

UAB 25
UAB 10
UAB 25
UAB 14
UAB 5
UAB 1
UAB 25
UAB 25
A&M 11 (A&M's lone turnover)
UAB 10

On average we started drives on our own 16 yard line (all drives). Doesn't include fumble TD.
On average A&M started drives on their 35 yard line (all drives, not just touchdowns). Doesn't include kickoff return TD.

They hit 2 of 3 field goals. We hit 0-3 field goals. Their kicker destroyed us, their return team destroyed us, and our return team couldn't gain any yards and fumbled once resulting in the TD. We lost special teams.

With all that rambling said, I still agree with you as I don't think we have the depth to hang with Tennessee and we're catching Tennessee at the wrong time. We're really thin at a few positions. However, I hope I'm proven way wrong Saturday.

RE: Tennessee - Blazer4Life14 - 10-30-2019 03:35 PM

I’d love to beat Tennessee, but I just don’t see it happening. They’re playing pretty well right now, and I just don’t know how good we are, as our SOS is.... well, no point in beating a dead horse. Plus, we’re just not at that point yet where winning these games is priority numero uno. Next year, with this young team being a year older and into year 4 of “The Return”, is when I’ll start thinking about these games in a win/loss mindset.

I’m honestly more concerned about USM/NT/La Tech later in the month. I’ll gladly take a loss this week if it means going 2-1 or 3-0 in those games.

That said, I’ll be there Saturday with a few Blazer fans, cheering for the win.

RE: Tennessee - UABFRENCHY - 10-31-2019 12:50 PM

this is for money only ,,,The rest of the season is where are the important games.
Next goal is to win the western conference
The TN game is like a friendly in soccer ,,,nice to win but UAB doesnt care ,TN need it to be bowl eligible ,,,we dont
If TN doesnt win ,,,it mean that they are terrible and the coach will lose his job
