So what is everyone's gut feel? I don't know the guy, but he should know the department after 23 years.

I think he is more than capable and will do a good job. I personally think that this also alludes to our current financial position in that we could not really go out and go after an established AD. I think this is a solid hire and a well deserved promotion as well as being the most prudent decision from a financial standpoint. No complaints from me.
