Where to begin.. - MiamiHuskie - 10-05-2019 07:09 PM

The third quarter has to be the worst quarter of NIU football I have ever seen, and I'm a survivor of the 90's.

1. Zero discipline. What 130 yards in penalties?
2. Zero field sense. Running the ball from the end zone?
3.Bowers won't run. He could have extended some drives with his legs.
4. Special Teams is a disaster.
5. Childers is probably wondering "what the hell did I do wrong".
6. Bowers isn't all he was made to be.

Hammock had better get this turned around, and fast. Looks like we'll have a "first to worst" season if he doesn't.

Don't forget that NIU got exactly ONE First Down in the third quarter and it came by virtue of a penalty.

That was indeed a train wreck of a quarter. We had two turnovers and what seemed like 100 yards of penalties.

BSU had 34 yards passing, NIU had 110 yards in penalties.

Bowers can pass, but the offense seems no better than last year. Not to dwell, but CHilders could get first downs with his feet. NIU is 1-4 to start the year, and we lost to Ball State. Toledo is going to slaughter this team.

I hope we beat Akron, I'll be at that game.

I think WMU, Toledo, and EMU beat the pants off of us.

Yes. We go 1-7 in the MAC.

RE: Where to begin.. - NorthCoast - 10-05-2019 07:40 PM

Best case scenario, this game turns out to be the 2011 Central Michigan wake up call. That team lost the MAC opener to Central Michigan and looked indisciplined and unfocused but then woke up and went undefeated the rest of the way, finished 7-1 in the MAC, and got to Detroit and won a Championship.

Worst case...

The sad part it’s not gonna be because they are necessarily better than NIU either. The same mistakes and coaching will bite Niu in the ass in the future. There’s little proof to say otherwise. After all the mental errors vs power 5 teams........this was the game to clean it all up, and it actually was worse.

I hope you're right. Just seems like there are few positives to go on right now. The number of penalties and bonehead mistakes is staggering.

I truly hope that Hammock and staff see what the issues are anc correct them. The third quarter NIU team that I saw today was a disaster. We gave BSU so many short fields because of mistakes I lost count. The D, as usual, played the best they could given the circumstances.

In all seriousness is anyone really confident that they can correct these errors? That’s 4 straight games of the same. Nothing has changed.

No, this team is 5 games in after 6 weeks and still has no identified playmakers and can't run the ball when needed.

That's actually why not all is lost. The bonehead mistakes are, in theory, correctable. The players need to shoulder some responsibility for the trash we've witnessed on the field but it is mainly on the coaches.

Coaches need to put their big-boy pants on and start coaching like paid professionals. It's their job to get the players to buy-in and lock-in. No excuses.

It's not over until at least the second MAC loss.

Rise and shine. Bedtime's over. Time to wake the f*** up.

Highly undisciplined game, but NIU got screwed more than a few times with officiating.

2. Zero field sense. Running the ball from the end zone?
I thought that motion by Richie where he was almost running behind the field goal post was a little interesting.

3.Bowers won't run. He could have extended some drives with his legs.
Maybe, but Bowers does not have the frame that can absorb hit after hit after hit like Lynch or even Childers for that matter.

4. Special Teams is a disaster.
At least Richardson is a plus, Huskies are set for awhile in that respect

5. Childers is probably wondering "what the hell did I do wrong".
I am a big Childers backer, but the problem is no way a matter of QB at this point.

6. Bowers isn't all he was made to be.
Bowers has no supporting cast right now. Can't point the finger at him.

RE: Where to begin.. - MiamiHuskie - 10-05-2019 07:59 PM

He has not shown good field presence. Remember the Vandy game when he tried to complete the trick play instead of just falling on the fumble?
In his defense there were a lot of dropped passes today, and speical teams gave BSU two touchdowns due to bonehead plays.

The offense started in their own end zone three times that I remember. It's a blur now.

I do not understand NIU’s fascination with running straight into the line. It’s been like this for a couple years now and is very tiring to watch. It seems like no one on the Huskies has the juke moves of a good RB. Other teams run around and through the line, while the Huskies love to run into a pile. What’s the point?

RE: Where to begin.. - BDB5yp - 10-05-2019 08:07 PM

There needs to be a Seniors meeting. The Seniors need to play and act like Seniors and help the young players and coaches not look like a Jackasses. I hate to see Seniors on the team costing the team....people I’m holding accountable:Marcus Jones(wtf, think!), Spencer Tears (wtf, non existent), Tre Harbison(wtf, how do you cause your own Quarterback to fumble?),Treshaun Foster(wtf, how many unsportsmanlike conducts you gonna get). They lost all focus and thought the game was won after the first half.

Yes, I think with this offense Hammock has installed, you need a traditional big, strong NIU offensive line for it to work. With the spread stuff you can cover up some deficiencies a little easier in the short term.

Good thing is they recruited Wisconsin hard for offensive line again. That state hasn’t disappointed.

Oh yeah, that 2011 team also won a Bowl Game. 05-duck
