Hard to believe he's been behind Haden on the depth chart. I'm guessing it's related to pass blocking.

Possibly.

I saw clips of part of a play where Johnston got nailed & Stanley failed to pick up the rush.

Could be that Haden provided more alternate abilities than Brown giving us a different look and Stanley was more like Brown.

Except quicker, faster, more decisive. Brown often seems to be "looking" for a place to run instead of sticking his foot in the ground and going for it. As a result he ends up moving parallel to the line of scrimmage toward the sideline negating his strength as he moves sideaways. Perhaps he doesn't quite trust his OL yet.

Yep, doesn’t run as hard as he use to or have the Jordan Howard trait of running hard as the game goes.

Other than the obvious Brown injury on his first carry, did we escape that wet messy game without any major injuries?

Hope Brown is not injured too bad.

something wrong with brown this year safety and corner back can tackle him easily

It seems that we played a lot of DBs that are not usually getting time . AJ brooks and Devondric Bynum, He was number 20, was playing numerous snaps. We may be very beat up at DB. Also Grayson Cash played the entire game and I did not see Will Dawkins play at all.

On pregame show: Dawkins got hurt (in practice?) and will miss some time. Cash started in his place. Our depth throughout the team is being tested this season...

I know that we're still concerned about this season, but all the back-ups getting PT bodes well for next year.

Anyone know when we'll get Dufour back?

RE: UAB vs Rice ***Game Thread*** - BlazerDave - 10-07-2019 12:26 PM

I noticed he was dressed out on the sideline.

I also noticed there was no noticeable limp during Blazerwalk (assuming it was a leg injury).

When they went through the line-up on the radio, they said he was available if needed.

He was dressed out at WKU also. Seems like it is something that if we needed him in an emergency situation we could use him but otherwise the coaches are just letting him heal as much as possible.

We need Dufour healthy for the late season run where we play all of the toughest teams on our schedule. Plus we are aso developing experience and depth at center for next year. Let him heal until at least ODU.

Bingo. This year is transition, and building experienced depth for mext year is going to frame the 20’s for UAB.

We are outplaying our experience this year in spite of injuries and holes on the Oline, and in the secondary. Soft early schedule has been greatly to our advantage. WKU was evenly matched and had a better game plan to frustrate our offense. Defense is playing beyond expected, well enough to win every game so far.

But next year is when UAB should hit a new peak if we can land one or two higher talent, ready to start interior linemen out of juco, and one more each plug and play corner and safety and rush end for depth. Hopefully we get Brontae, Jarrion and Jalen Rayam back. That will immediately bolster the defense.

Future is bright, but the last third of this season will be a challenge. Im thinking 9 wins unless the ground game further improves

I would be proud to take 9 wins during the regular season this year, which would give us a shot at a decent bowl again. Depending on who those extra 2 losses would come to going forward, we could still be in contention for the conference championship game.
