Great idea how about this one for starters who just entered the portal?

https://msuspartans.com/sports/football/roster/marcel-lewis/9927

Teams will go after him. He has 4 years of elig. left. 2019 - played but retained redshirt elig. 2020 is a freebie. So he has 4 years to play 4 more years.

We need quality LBs. Was highly recruited by B1G and MAC.

Yes, he and Julian Barnett just hit the portal from MSU. Lewis had offers from MSU, Michigan, Minnesota, Kentucky, Pitt, Purdue, Wisconsin, and most of the MAC out of the high school I'm sure he'll have a lot of interest.

Barnett (played both WR and CB at MSU) was a four-star top 100 overall recruit nationally with offers from everyone.

Lewis fills a bigger need as a LB, but as much as I would love to have him (or either of them) I'm sure they'll have tons of options. Maybe with the pandemic stuff going on one will want to be even closer to home (they are both from the east side of Michigan)??? We can hope haha!

Our big X factor is that with the Eagles, guys like this will have a legitimate chance to see playtime nearly as soon as they are declared eligible. He's experienced the glamor and letdown of making it to a big-name program only to discover that you come in on the low rung of the ladder and have to wait your turn to play.

On the other hand, you have to wonder are guys like these leaving that program because they don't like a new coach cracking down and making changes from what was an apparent lax atmosphere under Dantonio? If that is the motivation to leave, would a kid like that fit in Creighton's program?

Great points! I'm always a little leery of guys who were big time national recruits like them (especially Barrett) who transfer out after just a year or so. Is it because of a lack of hardworking leading to a lack of playing time when they feel like they should just be handed a starting job? Is it just a situation that just isn't a good fit, in which case they'd be a great addition to a program?

Hard to really tell, but it seems like Coach Creighton usually does a good job with transfers.

Yes CC does a good job.

RE: Unofficial 2021 Football Recruiting Thread - emu steve - 12-15-2020 07:15 AM

I checked out the Detroit News top 60 list for MI (behind a pay wall). We have none. Seven are uncommitted but I doubt we'll go for any.
Couple are huge OLs and a few RB. Neither is a need now.

I haven't been as close to EMU Football for as long as many of you all have been. How often has this team been able to look at the pool of recruits and for a given position realistically say, "That is not a need?"

I hear you, but we have a LOT of RBs. And a lot of OT. If a team gets too many at one position it causes players to leave, etc.

I speak mostly from a numbers point of view. Who wants 6 QBs, 8 TEs, 8 RBs., etc???

Ideally you want the classes spread out as evenly as possible to avoid only 14 seniors when it's more likely each class would be 17-22.

RE: Unofficial 2021 Football Recruiting Thread - EMUGLORYDAYSthe90's - 12-15-2020 04:43 PM

Connor Jones from Hilliard Darby would be my dream committment tomorrow! Best league in Columbus! Produces probably 25 D1 prospects every year! We already got one commit from that league the kid from Dublin, I believe an OT! Elijah Hawk is another kid I would love to get tomorrow from Pickerington Central! Fingers crossed! Jack Sawyer the #1 defensive player in America played against all 3 of those kids! Lorenzo Styles as well! Two mega recruits!

Hawk to WMU. Styles to Notre Dame.

According to 247, Jones committed to Toledo on December 1st and Hawk committed to Western Michigan on December 6th. Unless you've heard something about them flipping on signing day I think we are out of luck on those two.

Ugh........Hawk and Jones would've been huge gets for us! Toledo and W Mich won! That explains why they'll finish in the top 4 in MAC recruiting! We're currently 10th out 12! Have to get up to 7th tomorrow! 2-4 hurts!

RE: Unofficial 2021 Football Recruiting Thread - EMUGLORYDAYSthe90's - 12-15-2020 09:16 PM

Marquael Parks and Judah Holtzclaw are two others I would love to see us land! Parks is a freak athlete, and Holtzman plays in the same league, and is a 6'6" QB! Ohio produces a lot of D1 prospects! That league in Columbus produces a ton of D1 athletes! That stinks regarding Hawk and Jones!

Styles and Sawyers both probably had 35 offers or more! Both are NFL players! Sawyers a top 5 pick! He's insane!
