When I saw the subject of this thread I took a gulp thinking he got a big offer.

Same. Should've named the thread "Sean Lewis moving..." And the first post be "... To number 1 in my heart."

https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/regrading-the-2017-18-college-football-coaching-carousel-from-jimbo-fisher-and-scott-frost-to-dan-mullen/

"How's it going? Sean Lewis came to Kent State from Syracuse with plenty of experience in the MAC, having spent two seasons on Dino Babers' staff at Bowling Green. The former Wisconsin tight end took over a program that had only one winning season (2012) since 2002, and after going 2-10 his first season, he's gone 17-14 since. He's led the program to two bowl games -- giving it four in its history -- and won the only bowl game in program history in 2019. Lewis is already third in program history in wins (19), and if he sticks around another couple of seasons, it's hard to imagine he won't be the winningest coach in program history. Can Kent State keep him around long enough to get there? Grade: A+ | Original grade: C+"

I doubt he gets the gig at Cincy, but think he’d do well there with the increased resources.

Cincy coaching search

You have to feel for Cincinnati. They have been trying hard to be in the big time, like Boise State a while back, and they have been ranked and even made the playoffs once. But they will find it impossible to keep successful coaches just as much as a mid-major, which I guess they technically still are. I doubt Lewis is going to be hired anywhere as a head coach yet. But who knows?

RE: Sean Lewis - ilovegymnast - 12-02-2022 08:34 AM

I don't think Lewis is going anywhere this year and his biggest challenge is to prevent anyone else from leaving as well. The team has two MAC first team receivers and a first team running back. Bringing those three back will be a miracle.

And just like that....

We will now see if our AD is worth his salary. Any opinions on this?

I know this suggestion is made every time our HC opens up... But Toledo DC Vince Kehres.

Looks like he's taking Bill O'Boyle with him and endorsing Sowder for a replacement.
Also saw an article that said we're going to stay with the uptempo stuff and target a coach that can run it.

It's not like he doesn't have a generous revenue stream the next three years.

As far as Lewis, I'm sure hear realized he is a good coordinator, and that's about it. I've said it since the Akron game his offense is gimmicky.
(I'm well aware this won't go over well here and am prepared to reap the consequences.)
**I'm also going to rip on anyone that leaves Kent State. That's nothing new. I have spoken**
Sayin that, a coach that can't win 6 games, even with our schedule doesn't belong in the CH chair. You can say our schedule defeated us. Honestly, the only games I saw us dominate was BG & Long Island -I wasn't able to catch Buffalo. OU was lucky, Akron we were specifically lucky their QB threw us the ball a lot. (That won't happen next year.) We lost 2 games we should've won.
Now, Sean's offense -which has me scratching my head on him getting an OC position- he was good because Crum was good. Without Crum, he was not good. Dustin took his plays and made something happen.

Obviously Crum was special in this offense, the dropoff with Schlee was inevitable despite the claims but some, but more importantly the lack of depth behind Schlee was remarkable as well. Our #2 RB never played, our #1 WR checked out of the season early to save himself for the portal, and our D decided to check in too late. We have some nice pieces still in place, getting the next hire right will be crucial. There are a few guys in the portal, but other programs with coaching changes have had mass casualties so I'm guessing the next hire is already in house and his crew will stay on board.

It seems weird that the university hasn't said anything yet. I figured by now a small release would have been done by now.

Not really, the school does a horrible job with pushing new information out, heck you can go to their website and click on links that are years old and need of an update. Coach Sowder tweeted out this morning "We're still here. Still working. @KentStFootball is continuing to move in a positive direction" which leads me to believe those staying behind are hopefully taking over. With signing day looming it is important to have the roles filled.

RE: Sean Lewis - anti-zip - 12-06-2022 10:48 AM

If it's going to be Sowder the worst thing we could do is drag out the interview process. There are a bunch of talented players on our roster that have not yet entered the portal but are definitely googling what winter is like in Colorado right now.

It seems Prime allowed Lewis to bring one coach, I don't suspect he will allow him the space to bring too many players as well. What plug and play pieces can he take that would decimate our roster? Cephas is already gone; we can't lose Schlee since we have zero QB depth, but he's not going there with Deion bringing his own kid. Cooper? We have some RB depth.

Not going to rip your opinion. On this line inparticular I don't think that's true because it was reported he did interview for the Cincy HC position. I think he realized that being Sander's OC is a very unique opportunity. In college football the best teams stay the best teams because they get all the best players and there's no way to stop that. If you're part of one of those teams you can eventually work your way to the top (Ryan Day), but cracking in from the outside is hard. And elevating a team that's not in that small group to being a contender is very very hard because you can't compete with recruits. So when Lewis sees a HC coming to FBS that somehow managed to convince the #2 recruit in the country last year to go play FCS and that guy wants him to be his right and man, it's easy to understand why that's a wagon you want to hitch yourself to. Being a great college football coach anymore isn't so much about being a great coach... it's about recruiting a team full of NFL players.
