2019/20 hoops - monarx - 09-14-2019 07:17 PM

Saw the Lindys hoops preview today. ODU picked 7th in conference (would that be our worst finish?). WKU and UTSA picked 1 and 2 in conference. Liberty with a pre season rank of #21 and the rams #29. I still think we finish 3 or 4 in conference.

RE: 2019/20 hoops - ODU True Blue - 09-14-2019 07:26 PM

Lindy’s is maybe the worst mag out there. They do next to no research outside of the power conferences. Their ranking is based solely on lost scoring and returning scoring. That is their entire research.

Maybe Liberty can buy ODU in basketball too 05-stirthepot

RE: 2019/20 hoops - odu09 - 09-15-2019 07:28 AM

You would think we would take a dip in conference play (rightfully so losing Ahmad and BJ) until you actually go around the league and look at all the other teams. Barely anyone seems to improve except for Charlotte and UTEP. I think the top 2 is a toss up between WKU and UTSA (I personally favor UTSA), but from there it's a lot of guessing. We've never finished worse than 5th and I don't expect us to have our worst year in conference now with how good our recruiting has been lately.

I honestly have no idea what to do with UTEP and Charlotte, they look amazing on paper. The most certain I am is Tier 1 and that USM and FAU are going to suck.

--Tier 1--
1. WKU
2. UTSA

--Tier 2--
3. La Tech
4. ODU
5. UAB

--Tier 3--
6. FIU
7. UTEP
8. Marshall

--Tier 4 --
9. Charlotte
10. Rice
11. UNT
12. MTSU
13. USM
14. FAU

For the right price....

We'll hit some speed bumps along the way like we always do, but I think we'll be a capable team by the time pod play hits. Having to fight hard for every win in the CUSAT seemed to do the trick

RE: 2019/20 hoops - ODU Hugh - 09-16-2019 12:34 PM

This team will definitely need time to mesh, but 7th?! Not likely.

I apologize if this has already been answered, but I'm assuming AJ's waiver to play right away wasn't granted? Or are we still waiting to hear back?

I'm hearing not approved.

To be honest, I'm more interested in learning if they are still trying to get Dickens' year of eligibility back.

At the men's BB golf tournament fund raiser, coach Jones had the players introduce themselves and When Dickens spoke he said he was a junior at ODU. He didn't elaborate but I took that to mean he was junior eligibility wise. However, i wonder if that is something ODU has to straighten out with the NCAA when the time comes to rule on another year.

And last year he introduced himself as a sophomore.

Wow. Huge difference between Lindys and Athlon. I think they're quite wrong about UTSA, UTEP and Charlotte. They must not have done any research either. Otherwise they would know UTEP and Charlotte have the best young players in the conference, ODU lost its top talent and UTSA brings back nearly everyone from a squad that could have easily won it all last year.

Id go with:
WKU
UTSA
La Tech
ODU
Marshall
MTSU
FIU
UAB
UTEP
Charlotte

the rest

Looking forward to Goodwin this year. He is going to be a crucial to the success of this offense EARLY in the season.

And if you can't trust a Twitter account with 184 followers for your mid-major college basketball prognostications, who in this crazy world CAN you trust?

Yeah, those three you pointed out for sure and I think UAB should be a little higher. UTEP especially I could see in the top tier, they had some good pieces last year and are bringing in some more good talent. Charlotte may need another year to get to the top but I don't see them being at the bottom. No reason to not think that UTSA will be fighting for the title. Obviously WKU has the best talent in the league but until Stans shows he knows what to do with it I'll be using pencil to place them at number one.
