Chicago Watch Party? - rath v2.0 - 09-05-2019 06:57 PM

Any of youz jamokes gots the info on a good place to watch the game this weekend in Chi-town?

The misuses, Eastside and I are at Three Floyds tonight and will be staying in the River North area in Chicago proper over the weekend. Need a good home base to imbibe and yell at a TV with a few like-minded folks.

Never been there but after a google swipe...

O’Leary’s Public House

I know a couple of our resident Banter posters are from Chicago and they can vouch but the info looks pretty good for the River North area.

O'Leary's is the UC bar in Chicago (at least it was when I was there). If it's still the same, they serve Skyline and there's usually a solid gathering of Bearcats fans.

It's been years, but I watched the UC/Tennessee game at O'Leary's while in Chicago for work. Felt like I was in Clifton. Absolutely awesome.

Can confirm O'Leary's is the official Bearcat bar in Chicago for all the games. 541 N. Wells St. in River North. Will be a pretty good crowd there I expect (usually anywhere from 50 to 100 alumni show up depending on the game). They put most of the TV's on the game and crank up the sound. Tallest guy in the bar (about 6'9) will be hosting this one for our local UCAA chapter, as some of the rest of us who help host will be in Columbus.

Watched a couple of UC Basketball games at O'Leary's back in the day when I was on co-op in Chicago...great place and always more than a few UC grads in the joint.

If you were 2 hours south of Chicago I'd invite you over to my house.... I'm making Skyline for a halftime lunch 02-13-banana

Thank you all!

Sounds like we will be heading down to O'Leary's then.

Straight from the front of their web page:

Quote:A neighborhood bar in trendy River North.
Your home for the Packers, Bearcats, Blackhawks, & Sox.

I think we are going dig this place.

Are the Chicago Bearcat fans aware that there is a Chicago Renaissance on the Bearcat football team this year. All these players are from the Chicago area and are from the class of 2018.

1. 6-3 RSFr WR Alec Pierce (Glen Ellyn Glenbarn West HS). Pierce is the best WR on the Bearcat team, even though he didn't catch a ball last year. He is the only Bearcat 50-50 WR we have had since maybe Dominic Goodman 11 years ago. Pierce is really fast and he led a DB by two steps in the first quarter of the UCLA game. The Ridder dart was a little short, so Pierce came back and put his body between the ball and the defender. Result was a 59 yard catch. He is a little banged up, but he will play against tOSU. He is also outstanding at kick coverage.

2. Starting LG RSFr Jeremy Cooper (West Carmel HS). Didn't play much last year but is a solidly built 322# blocker. Passed upper classmen to start this year.

3. Soph Jayshon Jackson (Chicago Simeon HS). Cats play 3 WRs at the same time. Jackson is the 4th best WR in the whole group. He was #3 WR in catches last year. A quick receiver, Rondale Moore, killed the Bucks last year when a losing record team beat tOSU. In addition to Jackson, Beacrcats have a second really quick WR in Tre Tucker. Quick WRs do well again the Buckeyes zone defense.

4. Ben Bryant 6-3 QB (LaGrange Lyons Township HS). Strong arm solidly 2nd string QB. Father is an ER MD in a busy downtown Chicago hospital, and is also a Navy Reserve Doctor. Bryant was committed to Wisconsin for 6 months when the Whisky rookie QB coach pulled his scholarship without reason. The Bryant family would dearly love to see a Cincinnati-Whisky bowl game match-up at the end of the season.

The 2019 Chicago class of Bearcats isn't too shabby either. Marcelo Mendiota (Chicago Carmel HS) is 2nd string LG.

Bearcat OC Mike Denbrock is probably responsible for the Chicago talent wearing Bearcat colors. Denbrock was Brian Kelly's OC at Notre Dame, which gave him the keys to open the door to every high school in Chicago. Chicago is the "City of Broad Shoulders" and these Chicago Bearcats are tough, smart, work hard and are successful.

If you want the best prime rib: Lawry's
If you want the best steak: Maple & Ash
If you want the best baseball: Chicago Cubs
If you want the best view: Top of the John Hancock Center (good eats up top as well).

Those are my recommendations.

Rath, have a great time and tell Eastside that I said, “Hi!”

RE: Chicago Watch Party? - bearcatmark - 09-06-2019 05:15 PM

I see "Eastside the white" lurking here from time to time. Keep waiting for him to come back to us at the turn of the tide

Thanks for the recommendation, all. Great UC bar. Had about 75 out of the 90 people there in UC gear. Matt was a great guy to talk with. We plan to make the drive back to Chicago for another road game with the group down here.
