Let's represent UC well! - Jchuges7 - 09-03-2019 12:18 PM

I know there's a lot of us heading to Columbus this weekend so just wanted to offer my $0.02. There's a lot of times we hear from other message boards nuts like ourselves and we focus on the worst and most arrogant of those fans. However, I'd like to challenge all of our Bearcats fans going to the game to remember what name you're likely going to have on your chest. Be loud, be proud, and cheer for the Bearcats! Just don't go out of the way to be jerks to the Buckeye fans. Most of those people likely aren't the worst of the worst that we hear from time to time. And even if they are, we have the opportunity as a fan base to be the bigger people. I know they're just students but I heard way too many chants of F*** the Bruins getting spread throughout the student section on Thursday night.

OK, rant over... I'll hang up and wait to get taken to task. Stay classy Bearcats fans.

I've been to over 30 stadiums...the two places I was treated worst were Ohio Stadium and Cleveland Brown Stadium. It is what it is. I'm sure UC fans will represent themselves fine. Hope we can say the same for the other side.

I agree - every now and again you hear about "XYZ's fanbase" being some of the smartest/nicest/most courteous/[insert superlative] fanbases in the country.. (I believe there were even a few people who said that on this message board about the UCLA fans they encountered last Thursday.) ..No reason we can't be the same in Columbus.

It used to be Ohio State students, but that seems to be changing. Now, it's the aging white dude small town non-grads who seem to be perpetuating that issue.

I hope that's the case too. I went to OSU as a student in 2006 and had no problems that I can remember.

The worse I've ever been treated was Pitt in 2009, was threatened to be sent over the back fence as I was silently walking in, and WVU in 2006, friend in front of me got hit in the head in the stadium with a flying, full glass beer bottle.

I had a great fan experience at WVU. Showed up at the tailgate, WVU fans reached out and had us join with them. UC won incredibly thrilling fashion (2008), we went out after the game and WVU fans called us over immediately. Started talking to us. I bought my first beer and they literally kept topping me off from their pitchers the rest of the night.

I didn't have any issues for Pitt/UC in 2009. Had some issues for Pittsburgh v. Bengals in 2005 (amazing Bengals win).

In Cleveland I had a full beer dumped on me as I walked to the tailgate lot. Fans yelled a ton at me, tough the people around me were mostly cool. One of them kept barking at me, but also bought me a couple beers.

OSU has been a mixed bag for me, but I've had more people yell at me there than anywhere but Cleveland.

The UCLA fans we encountered last year at the Rose Bowl were fantastic. My wife and I had a younger UCLA grad sitting in front of us and he pleasantly chatted with us throughout the whole game, even until the end when we pulled out the win. Also had some very kind folks on the shuttle bus over.

Michigan fans were also incredibly friendly. They approached us at our tailgate and offered us food and drinks from their site.

There's no reason to be incredibly hostile to other fans, especially when there is no rivalry and the teams don't play frequently. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

Agreed Michigan fans were great. Oklahoma fans were probably the best I've been around on a road trip. Most of my experiences on the road have been great. I try to pay if forward when road fans come to UC.

I went to the UC-O$U game in 2014 and was the only guy for UC in my section. Nobody said a word to me.

Indiana and Purdue were also both hospitable. I just think neither of those give a rip about football.

Went to the game at UK in '85. Took a lot of verbal flak but nothing threatening. If the game had been closer... I don't know.

Have gone to one game at ND. Was neutral and didn't have a dog in the fight. Sat in a non-visitors section. Felt like everyone in the stadium knew everyone else and they were all looking at me like "who are you... and how did you get in here???"

The thing that struck me about attending a game at Notre Dame was how quiet the place was throughout. I was there for freaking Notre Dame v. USC. It was a close game. It felt like I was at a MAC school with the crowd noise.

I can only echo the sentiments you shared here and in your first post of this thread. My hope would be that UC fans are described as a class act when visiting other universities for athletic events. I'm disappointed to hear of the chants from our student section; didn't hear any of that myself last Thursday night but a reminder about expected behavior from UC Athletics to the students on a regular basis seems a best practice.

Yes! Very little background noise. Then, when something happens, everyone yells all at once and it's startling.

I just took it as everyone just chatting amongst themselves with those around them... since they all knew each other.

I caught flack for complaining about that during the Houston game a few years ago. I'm glad someone else feels the same. That kind of environment takes the fun out of it for me. I'm not a prude and I'm prone to dropping f bombs myself from time to time, but a chant at a football game? Nah. It's just a game.

Kind of wish we could come up with something a bit more clever, say like they do at an FCC match.

It's just about how you want your school to be perceived. You can be just as loud, passionate and intimidating without swearing at all, yet alone repeated chanted F-bombs.

Pitt '09, in the cheap seats, was a rough one. I had people jumping on me and yelling at me for 3.5 quarters. Thanks to Tony Pike for clearing them out.

So who’s all actually going to the game?

I'll be there with my wife, her younger brother from Maryland (a big OSU fan but he likes the Bearcats and was good luck for us at the bowl game) and a friend.

Been to Akron, BGSU,IU, IL, Memphis, UK, Pitt, WVU, UL, Miami. Ohio Stadium, TN, Tulane, etc.

By far the worst was Ohio Stadium and the Pitt.

My wife cringes at the thought of Saturday. They are not sore losers they are sore obnoxious winners.
