Is This Present Design The Final Design of Protective Stadium? - CyberBlazer - 08-12-2019 01:41 PM

I'm not sure if it has been asked and answered in an earlier thread and I somehow missed it, but is the present design (located on their website) the final rendering of Protective Stadium or is it still in the concept stage?

Just asking for a friend

They havent released final design yet, and there is no "Home" side at the new stadium. This isnt high school.

The good seats between the 30s not in direct sunlight on the home sideline. That home side.

That's the Blazer Booster side.

and we should limit the seats why? I have not desire to sit on the east side in 95-102 degree direct sunlight for 3.5 hours. do you actually think our athletic department will schedule night games in august and day games in October?

RE: Is This Present Design The Final Design of Protective Stadium? - BlazerMatt - 08-12-2019 09:52 PM

I'm sure the athletic department would tell you to make sure you have enough Blazer Club Priority points to pick the seat of your choosing.

Priority Point Opportunities
1 Point For every $100 in lifetime giving to UAB Athletics
5 Points For every $100 in total giving to UAB Athletics during the current year
5 Points* For each consecutive year as a football or men's basketball season ticket holder since 2006
10 Points For each consecutive year as a Blazer Boosters member since 2003

Yep. I made my first donation ever today for basketball STIX. Hoping that, plus being a season ticket every year since the return will mean I’m not at the very bottom of the list.

Go to https://ev10.evenue.net/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/SEGetGroupList?groupCode=FSTN&linkID=uab&shopperContext=&caller=&appCode=

Tell it you want to buy season tickets. Look at the tickets available. TLDR: There are not very many.

UAB football has grown, this is a good thing. Our fans are not going to fit on one side of our new home. This also, is a good thing.

The "Home" side of legion field seats nearly 35,000 people. I guess you can build a stadium where 35,000 of the 45,000 seats are on one side, but it would look like a high school stadium. If coach Clark wanted to coach in high school stadiums, he would still be winning state championships in high school.

Nice. Are we only selling season tickets in those four sections though?

RE: Is This Present Design The Final Design of Protective Stadium? - BlazerMatt - 08-13-2019 11:17 AM

at this late date? i mean, sort of? You could call and probably get season tickets any any available seats. The issue is that they have some areas reserved for family four pack tickets, and other tickets reserved for promotional giveaways. Tickets that you can think of as not sold, but also not available in the system for season ticket purchases either.

The home side should not have half or less than half the number of seats as the opposite side. There is nothing wrong with wanting the design to be better

RE: Is This Present Design The Final Design of Protective Stadium? - BAMANBLAZERFAN - 08-13-2019 02:45 PM

The highest value seating for football is around the 50 yard line. Sideline seats between the goal lines are the next most valuable. The least value seats are from the goal lines through and behind the end zones. Has there been a stated number of seats in each category that will be provided by this BJCC Protective Field? Will the seating be metal bench like at Legion Field or be stadium "theater" seats with backs as in some new facilities?

The "home and visitor side thinking" may go back to B'ham's Iron Bowl days when Legion Field was equally divided between AU and UA ticket sales for many years. The new stadium will build its own ticket traditions as it develops its own history. Regarding suites, I expect a row of them on both sides as the upper fringe above regular seats.

What is being built now will be UAB's home field for the next several decades so I am hoping it will be modern enough to be an attractive improvement over what we have now.

RE: Is This Present Design The Final Design of Protective Stadium? - BlazerMatt - 08-13-2019 03:07 PM

We seem to be talking in a circle here. There is no home side and there is no away side. There is a stadium that is oval shaped and all but maybe two sections of the stadium will be for home fans. One side will have a press box and luxury boxes and club suites that will eat into the capacity of that side of the stadium, maybe call it the booster side, but even that is likely not an accurate description because i bet there will be booster sections along both sidelines, or at least the sections between the 30's along both sidelines.

The club sections will be concentrated in the same structure as the press box because it saves money to build it that way The only reason we would have shade on the stands underneath the press box/luxury suite side is because of the large size of that combined structure.

I understand what you are saying, you want all the fans who want to sit on the press-box side in Protective Stadium to be able to do so because thats the way it has been when we had 15k fans in a 75k stadium at Legion Field. I'm just trying to explain to you that its impossible to do so when trying to fit 30k+ fans into a 45k seat stadium.

I guess if it bothers you you could pony up the tens of millions it would take spread the luxury boxes around the entire circumference of the stadium, creating a uniform "bowl" topped with a ring of single or two story suites and boxes. There would then would not be much if any shade anywhere in the stadium if you did that, but i guess its doable.

You could also pony up the probably $5k donation it would take to put you ahead of people on the priority list who:

Have been football or basketball season ticket holders since 2006 (Mike Anderson's second year)
Have been Blazer Boosters at the bare minimum level since 2003 (I think it used to be $50 per year back then) and who plans on continuing to be a member at the bare minimum level going forward.

Put another way, when it comes time to buy football season tickets at the new stadium, for $5000 you can put yourself in line in front of anyone who has been a loyal but poor fan of the Blazers since 2003 and get a nice seat pretty much wherever you want in the new stadium, and thats assuming you are starting from zero and have never given before.

RE: Is This Present Design The Final Design of Protective Stadium? - bftb - 08-13-2019 03:52 PM

Matt....those are good points, however snarky they may be.

From the first drawings of the new stadium, it has been obvious that some people just can't get past the mentality of a home and visitor side, either because of a high school mentality or because that's the way it's been for us in Legion Field all these years. Yes the teams are on either sideline, but that doesn't mean all their fans have to sit behind their respective team.

Obviously, most schools never consider home and away sides for their stadiums. By definition, the whole stadium is a HOME FIELD, not a home side. Ask the folks in Tuscaloosa or Auburn if they have a home side and a visitor side. They would think it was a ridiculous question.

Part of the problem of the past has been the perception that no one was at Legion Field because all of our fans were on the west side, and the cameras all pointed to the east. So every time a fan who didn't attend games saw video, they saw an empty stadium. That was part of the problem of playing in a stadium that swallowed us up.

A better comparison may be Bartow Arena. We have season ticket holders on both sides of the court, not just on one side. Of course, the premium seating (and $$ donations) are in the middle sections, but not behind a particular bench. There is no home side.

RE: Is This Present Design The Final Design of Protective Stadium? - ATTALLABLAZE - 08-13-2019 10:11 PM

There is no home side. Period. Now the stadium will even look good on a poorly attended game. Donate and buy tix now for better seats later. I’m happy as a lark. Bring it on.

RE: Is This Present Design The Final Design of Protective Stadium? - BlazinBham - 08-13-2019 11:11 PM

If we are being honest, there’s no reason to worry about not getting seats behind the UAB bench at the new stadium this early. There’s roughly 11k season ticket holders at most for Fball. Probably less than 1k for basketball, most of which are already football STH, too. Just continue to buy your season tickets and you’ll be in more than good enough position to get something that you are comfortable with.

We aren’t sky rocketing too much more in the amount of season ticket holders anytime soon. Not til we get in a different league or our conference mates aren’t overall pathetic.

There design needs to have more seats on the pressbox side and the pressbox needs to be built higher. Sacrifice some end zone seats would make for a better design. I agree completely.. This would allow for better expansion down the road when UAB joins the Big 12.
