Oh, man. Just now found this out.
D.C. Smith obit
He was a wonderful guy, great math teacher, and a good friend to me. He was on those very-good-but-not-quite-great teams in the late '70s - Sonny Smith's last year and Hallihan's first one. (Which was also the transition from the OVC to the SoCon.) If I recall correctly, he was on the team that beat Wake Forest when they came to the Dome, and then beat Ga. Tech here the following year, too.
Underrated, imo - likely because he came here as a juco. (And became a decent tennis player eventually, too - and ended up being Science Hill's tennis coach for a few years.)
Very sad to lose him.
