N C State is ranked #25 preseason. Wake and UNC are not in the top 25.

State hired Wes Moore as head coach a few years ago from UT-Chattanooga. He dominated the SoCon with the Mocs. The Wolfpack is the best team in the Big Four.

UNC-CH ran off Sylvia Hatchell for insensitive comments to players and rushing players back after injuries. Those qualities weren't concerns when her team won the NCAA title in 1994 and was strong for 15 years after that. The Heels fell off and then women's hoops was one of the programs associated with the academic scandal. Coach Hatchell was sick, but then recovered. She had a long term contract.

The inquiry after last season forced her resignation. She was old enough to retire and they let her run her camp this summer.

The new coach came from Princeton. She'll get more out of the talent that's in place. UNC will be better this season.

Wake's women's program would be in the doghouse if their men's program wasn't a vortex of negativity.
