Our mascot is the Eagle. Our nickname has been the Mean Green since the 1960's. We officially adopted the Mean Green as our name in the early 2000's.

Of all the green objects to pick as a way to convey a mascot, why a bird? This is actually a serious question.

Our students selected the Eagle as our mascot back in 1922. Boston College selected the Eagle about 3 months earlier than we did. The Mean Green nickname was first reported in 1966, during a win against UTEP. It was given to our top 5 defense that featured Joe Greene, and Cedrick Hardman. Reporters gave the name to Joe Greene when he went to the NFL.

Were the school colors still green and white? And the whole "Mean Green" thing is just a big coincidence? That'd be crazy.

So when the AAC doesn't take any of us, will some of you retire to commiserate on your own team message boards or will I have to do a lot of cleanup here? I want to try to plan my weekend out ahead of time.

I don't think you saw any Marshall fan stating we will be selected.

Yes. The colors for North Texas football have always been green and white. When UNT first started playing football our first uniforms were donated to the school by the Denton Athletic Club, and those uniforms were green and white. While North Texas didn't start playing varsity football until 1913, we had football as a club sport by the late 1890's.

I agree with that assessment. If we're the best option according to whatever boxes they're checking they'll hold tight. Makes me feel good for sure, but that's not what's important.

Did you notice all the Southern Miss fan poo slinging what a bunch of losers. There isn't one ODU fan saying anything bad about USM and i completely understand your frustration but your anger and frustration is misdirected. Please stop the slander and stop looking like fools and bit i sure can see AAC holding at 11 for a while until one of the potential candidates shows signs of growth and gives them hope.

They are going green though. 100% wind energy, and their poop is compostable.

Really 75%? I get that every fan base has some bad eggs but even with ours included 75% is a reach don't you think? Burden of proof rests on you and if you are correct i will Shut up and carry on but from what ever i have seen ever seen since this UConn announcement i have seen some USM posters and a couple of Marshall posters resorting to slander when there is absolutely no need for it and this is just not this board, twitter other conference boards etc.

Thanks. Nice to see our hard work is paying off. I expect good games with both SMU and Houston this season. I think both could be sellouts.
