No real surprise, but glad he's back.

Good logical decision. Take us to the big dance and you’re a lock to get drafted!

Eggscellent!

RE: Geno’s Back - dc1 - 05-27-2019 04:16 PM

I told you all he’d likely be back but most said he’s done here. Bowling green should be the favorite this year in the MAC but they will be challenged

Love it. Fun to watch geno.

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RE: Geno’s Back - StevenNIU - 05-28-2019 08:53 AM

Definitely makes next year's team better. Realistically, in order to have a chance at the NBA next year, he will need to continue improving his 3 point percentage and his scoring average needs to be around 30 points per game.

RE: Geno’s Back - NIU007 - 05-28-2019 09:11 AM

Whew!!!

I feel much better about next season.

Does a winning season get Monty an extension? Gino is one of the all time greats at NIU. To steal a phrase, is this like putting "lipstick on a pig"?

Are you kidding or drinking or both?

Sweet Sixteen and a couple of transfers from Duke and I'll consider it.

I hope not ( please STF) IMO Monty and NIU would be better off going their separate ways just my opinion. Things can change with transfers-new recruits etc but after next year it could get ugly. Seems like we didn’t get much out of this last years Fr+ Soph classes.

For the programs future, getting rid of him sooner rather than later is better. If he is canned next year after the season or if he is not given a contract extension, one more really crappy year of recruiting. After Geno leaves, cupboard is bare.

Not true.

Henry-Hays was a starter. Daow was a regular off the bench. Hankerson was a regular off the bench and started a couple of games. And Richie played a lot off the bench (more so later in the year) and possibly would have been in line to start next season had he not decided to transfer.

They got a ton out of the sophomores and freshmen considering the starting 5 was 2 seniors, 2 juniors, and a sophomore, with major minutes coming from 3 underclassmen (and a junior) and a freshman whom many think will be better than decent (Justin Lee).

You're making quite the statement without having any idea how good Justin Lee, Tyler Cochran, or Keenan Cole may be. It's not like German was some blue chip recruit. The only school that recruited him was NIU (wasn't even considered a consensus 3* recruit) and he's become one of the best players in the history of the school.

Only time will tell. Real Cream rises to top quickly. We have a lot of decent players but no studs. Geno iis a stud.

If you want to think they got a lot of production from the Fr-So class have at it. Henry-Hayes, Hankerson and Daow combined to ave 7.9 points per game. Put them as your Jr-Sr classes after next year and you think that’s a lot returning good luck. I stand by my statement.

RE: Geno’s Back - huskie1stdown - 05-28-2019 01:39 PM

I am glad he is back.
I bet Monty goes super light on the non conference schedule since he will need 20 plus wins to beg for an extension.

I never said they got production. If you look closer, I clearly said they got "minutes". Minutes =/= Production. Nevertheless, German, Bradley, Thorpe and James took 68% of the shots last year. Plus, the team was one of the higher scoring teams in the nation. They didn't need the underclassmen to step up. There wasn't room for it, tbh.

Needless to say, a team with a Jr Sr class of Mateen, Henry-Hays, Daow, Scott, Johnson, Hankerson, and Lee along with sophomores Cochran and Cole...is that a good core or group to have?

Honestly, I don't know. I do know that Lee could be the main attraction of that group. Possibly Cole, but I really don't know. I didn't know how good German was going to be either.

Either way. That is not a "bare cupboard" situation. There are a lot of role players plus a couple that could be the leaders of the scoring aspect.

I do know they'll have to probably get another JUCO big man. They'll be all out after this season. That is a concern. They have inside size, but they don't have a center. That concerns me. With that said, I still don't see the bare cupboard.
