Here's a link to the ESPN+ telecast of our Friday game with Marshall, scheduled to start at 3 p.m. (CST): http://www.espn.com/watch/_/id/7c2704f5-e59c-40c5-ab1e-25478cfb80b7/cusa-baseball-tournament

Weather permitting, it should start on time, as it's the first of two loser's bracket games set for Friday. (The other is UTSA vs WKU, set to start at 6:30 p.m.)

If we win the next 3 games before losing, we would finish the year with a .459 winning percentage, surpassing last year's .458 winning percentage, so I will root for that result, and then declare improvement.

We have to wait 3 years before judging progress.

Game underway. Owls are visitors. 1st two Owls walk.

Fly out and double play quickly end that promising start.

RE: CUSA-Tourney: Rice vs. Marshall (Game 9) - Friday 3 p.m. CST - Almadenmike - 05-24-2019 03:23 PM

Owls begin with two walks ... but then Cruz flew out and Dunlap hit into an inning-ending double play.

Marshall started with a single ... runner tagged up on a fly to deep center ... got to 3rd on an infield groundout ... and came home on a hot-shot single up the middle, just over Bordwine's head.

1-0, Marshall.

Wiff on a 2-2 pitch ends the inning.

T2: Edwards ... first pitch 6-3 groundout.
Cox K's on his 3rd pitch, a called strike.
Collins walks on 4 pitches! "Two-out ral-ly!!"

Antonio Cruz ... 2-2 pitch is low & away ... bounces away from catcher ... Collins takes second (throw from catcher was high & probably late). But Antonio bites on high heat. K. Sigh.

1-0, Marshall ... heading to B2.

B2:

Flyout to shallowish left-center.
Flyout to deep right.
4-pitch walk ... Ball 4 was just inside.
Called strike 3!! Yay!!

1-0, Marshall ... after 2. (Gotta run an errand)

RE: CUSA-Tourney: Rice vs. Marshall (Game 9) - Friday 3 p.m. CST - Fort Bend Owl - 05-24-2019 03:46 PM

Beaulaurier and Gneiting doubles in the 3rd tie it up at 1-1.

RE: CUSA-Tourney: Rice vs. Marshall (Game 9) - Friday 3 p.m. CST - waltgreenberg - 05-24-2019 03:53 PM

Finally getting to Marshall's awful pitcher.

Beaulaurier leadoff double
Comeaux deep fly out. Aaron tags up to 3B.
Gneiting RBI double. 02-13-banana
Cruz infield single. Runners on the corners, one out.
Dunlap struck out. Ugh. Same old, same old. You simply HAVE to put the ball in play in that situation.
Wild pitch scores Bradly after throw to 2B goes into OF (E-2). 02-13-banana Cruz to 3B, two outs.
Edwards flied out.

Good guys take a 2-1 lead heading to the bottom of the third inning.

I promise not to head to a happy hour today. That is seemingly a jinx factor here.

RE: CUSA-Tourney: Rice vs. Marshall (Game 9) - Friday 3 p.m. CST - Fort Bend Owl - 05-24-2019 04:13 PM

Capuano already has lasted longer today than he did last weekend against us. He's not an elite pitcher, and Marshall has plenty of guys in the pen they can go to, so that's not a very promising sign.

RE: CUSA-Tourney: Rice vs. Marshall (Game 9) - Friday 3 p.m. CST - waltgreenberg - 05-24-2019 04:13 PM

A.Cruz singles, but stranded at 1B. Heading to B4. Not exactly battering this pitcher. The good news is he's alreay up over 70 pitches.

RE: CUSA-Tourney: Rice vs. Marshall (Game 9) - Friday 3 p.m. CST - ExcitedOwl18 - 05-24-2019 04:14 PM

Bordwine is at 50 pitches through 3.

RE: CUSA-Tourney: Rice vs. Marshall (Game 9) - Friday 3 p.m. CST - Tomball Owl - 05-24-2019 04:21 PM

On to T5. Owls up 2-1

RE: CUSA-Tourney: Rice vs. Marshall (Game 9) - Friday 3 p.m. CST - waltgreenberg - 05-24-2019 04:23 PM

Kel gives up a single, but gets 3 fly outs. Already 7 outfield flies in 4 innings, and only 2 ground outs. Here's hoping he can continue to keep the balls in the park. 65 pitches through 4 innings.

What would be the Rice bullpen plan today? Lewis for sure will be out there, but who else do you guess we'll see?
