Eric Haut - - dannyb73 - 05-20-2019 10:50 PM

Eric is headed to Northern Kentucky as the lead assistant. Let's see what rabbit Coach has in his hat to replace him.

Best of Luck to Eric. He is a great guy and one of a handful of very solid assistants who are former players that we could see back leading the troops someday.

SMART MOVE ALL AROUND ... Haut gets to add to his resume, Senderoff gets to add some new blood from the outside to keep program from getting stale.

Ditto on former staff/players now high up the coaching ladder around the country.

When that time comes, Kent AD won't need a search firm, that's for sure, unless he just wants to waste some $$$.

Eric has done a great job here and represented our University well. I am sad to see him leave. Hopefully, we can get a new coach that can bring a different dimension to the program.

Speaking of coaching changes. Do we know where Deandre Haynes is headed? I know he wont come back to KSU for that position but was curious as to where he is headed.

This is another alarming red flag for the men’s basketball program.

RE: Eric Haut - - anti-zip - 05-21-2019 08:55 AM

Or it's a sign that he doesn't think Sendy will be leaving anytime soon. Being the coach in waiting isn't appealing if you don't think the job will open up.

Wish him the best. I'll be curious to see who we get. Would being the associate head coach in the MAC be too much of a demotion for Haynes or Mincy? Probably. What's Avery's future plans? Demetric Shaw retired yet?

RE: Eric Haut - - GFlash68 - 05-21-2019 02:40 PM

What about Trevor Huffman? He is teaching basketball.

Haut's role (any associate head coach, really) was huge ... game-day prep/scouting, probably in charge of either offense/defense, as well as a position coach (gds, wings, or posts) not to mention recruiting ... if he was also the coach the players gravitated too, then the loss is even bigger.

Still ... doubt it's a red flag as much as a sign to put some shine on the resume.

As for a replacement? There are always guys out there, but finding the right fit is key ... Haynes if he is not kept on the next Michigan staff would surely find a landing spot at Kent ... but the downside to that is he probably would not be at KSU more than a year ... his star is rising.

Whoever it is ... good luck all the way around.

I read an article today about Michigan's recruits and that retaining their assistants will be significant in keeping the recruits. It speculated that keeping Haynes may be tough because Kent's top assistant job is open. I'm not sure the author knows how we pay our assistants but it would e awesome to get Haynes back.

If this is a real possibility, it will probably come down to the AD.

If I were in those shoes, I would not only find a way to pay Haynes at least enough to feel good about taking the job ... I would do two other things.

1. ... Sign Haynes to a two, maybe even three, year contract.

2. ... Put a modest buyout clause in the contract.

Haynes by all accounts is a young rising star ... it is quite possible, no matter what, he would be a one-year rental. Kent obviously would not want to deny Haynes the opportunity to move up in the profession ... but at the same time the AD should leverage what he can.

Just my opinion.

This would make me happy

Bring Deandre Haynes back as the associate head coach. Randall Holt just moved on to Stoney Brook under Geno Ford and Haut to NKU. Haut posted some pictures on Twitter and man does NKU facilities look nice.

Curious, did KSU ever get their buyout money from Geno?

Somehow, I believe on the QT, some kind of deal was cut after Lester got out of the picture ...

Would not swear on it, but just as assumption. Really a bogus suit to begin with ... kind of like holding a player back from transferring IMO.

If anything ... Bradly should have been on the hook for the $$$.

Nah, it wasn't bogus at all. Ford signed the contract with Kent that clearly stated the buyout. Then he failed to live up to the terms of the contract. Kent was 100% in the right on that one.

CORRECT .... however, the way this is normally done is the school hiring the coach usually pays the buyout, or works out some sore of mutually agreeable deal.

So while you/Kent are legally correct ... that is not how this normally works. Look at the UCLA-SMU scenario with coach Jamie Dixon as an example. UCLA would not pay the buyout ... Dixon had to stay at SMU.

Ford certainly had bad advice/agents ... but Bradley was no help either. And while Kent was in the right ... even if Ford paid all the buyout, was it really worth it???

RE: Eric Haut - - Polish Hammer - 06-01-2019 06:49 PM

I don’t think it was bogus and think the buyouts are worth it. Bad enough to serve as as feeder system to the bigger programs but at least the buyout eases the pain. I couldn’t imagine having your coaches poached without some sort of compensation to break the contract. So much more goes into it than just the coach and his contract, there’s his assistants, players and recruits, and when the 1st dominoes falls without any deterrent (and depending on the timing) then everything could fall apart quickly.

Looks like Aaron Fuss is the new assistant. He was an assistant at UT Chattanooga after being at OU. Anyone know who is going to be the associate HC?
