Good move. In the short term it could help them get players we don't want, and at the same time keep them away from Ole Piss and the Vols.

you can still build a heckuva team with high schoolers in Memphis that Penny doesn't offer.

Vandy has some serious disadvantages when it comes to recruiting...

Stack will soon find out.

From Vandy sports site:

Quote:While it's true that Vanderbilt does typically require more of it's student-athletes than some other schools will, and has standards that are above the normal NCAA clearinghouse entrance requirement, the standard may not be as restrictive to Vanderbilt as the general public would believe.

Over the last several years, Vanderbilt's recruiting office has spread a wide net throughout the country, and several top prospects have been identified to be suitable enough students to accepted by the universities admission standard. Several others have been recruited for extensive periods of time as the school reviews academic records in an effort to admit the prospect.

VandySports.com has studied Vanderbilt's recruiting practice since the website began in 2003, and has a number of facts that may put holes into the theory that Vanderbilt's academic standard is too high for the Commodores to compete for winning seasons within the Southeastern Conference and reach post-season play on a more regular basis.

Unlike some of the other SEC schools they do need to know that 2 plus 2 = 4.

Yes, and now the talent will be spread out even more. Good hire and good for us.

Good for Faragi b/c he seems to be a good guy and good coach. Tough b/c at one point he was going to be an assistant here but things didn't work out.
It worked out for us obviously but I thought he would eventually get on staff here. But kudos to him.

In the 80 and maybe beyond, didn’t they have Peabody school across the street from Vandy that athletes went to. It was publicly known and ANYONE could get in.

COGS I was just getting ready to make this same post when I scrolled down and read your post. I know some kids that did this
in the early eighties.

It will be very interesting to see if penny can keep Murrell. He is a priority for us which should mean we get him but recruiting against his high school coach is a big wildcard.

Good move by Vandy

I see this as Murrell looking at all the variables and ultimately doing what is best for him. I would think that if he is extremely confident, then Penny will land him. If he isn't sure if he can compete and earn playing time, he will go to Vandy.

I don't think the pull of either coach will ultimately be the decider as it is in many cases.

A lot on Murrell will depend on 1) what guards we have coming back and 2) Jalen green

RE: Faragi Phillips to Vandy - Assistant for Stackhouse - memphisike - 05-18-2019 03:39 PM

Stack and Ewing will want to play us, be good to get these game back on the schedule
Plus maybe the A.D can parlay a vandy football game, might even get a home and home
That's vandy, not G.T. for Football

Doesn't Vandy have pretty high admission standards?

Ewing will not want to play Memphis. Georgetown plays a weak ass creme puff sked. I would be shocked if they end up on our schedule.

The reality doesn't seem to match the hype, not in athletics at least.

I know absolutely zero about this coach. But remember, T Madlock eventually ended up with the Tigers.Maybe,
Faragi ends up on the Memphis staff in the future. Just saying.

I think the world of Coach Phillips. When I returned to Mitchel in 2011-12 school years we inherited a program that won 9 games in 2 years. Our first hire was Coach Phillips. He turned the program and we were state runner ups that year. We ended up winning 2 state titles under him. What truly impressed me was our first conversation we had. He asked me if I thought Andre Turner would accept being on his staff. He asked and Dre said yes. Here is a man asking the person whose name is on the gym he plays and practices in to be son his staff... He held players accountable off the court also and they were model students. He was committed to wining. As you know AT is our head coach now. Coach Phillips will be and excellent college coach. Mitchell and Whitehaven were blessed to have him
