RE: 2019 MBB non-conference - herdfan129 - 07-25-2019 08:14 PM

There's no reason for us not to be a solid basketball conference that gets 2-3 bids per year. Lot of historically good teams in this conference and we have pretty good support in grand scheme of things.

We just can't seem to get over the hump.

RE: 2019 MBB non-conference - Fort Bend Owl - 07-28-2019 06:40 PM

Rice is opening the 2019-20 season at Arkansas. Our NC schedule is going to be pretty solid - games at Arkansas and Houston, and the overseas tournament earlier discussed in this thread.

RE: 2019 MBB non-conference - usm99 - 07-30-2019 11:06 AM

based off some CUSA men's schedules along with some CUSA women's schedules I've pieced together USM's schedule with a few OOC games still remaining. I'm basing several of our CUSA games off the fact that last year the men and women's scheduled mirrored the dates but flipped the location

Nov 27: Gonzaga (Atlantis)
Nov. 28: Seton Hall/Oregon (Atlantis)
Nov. 29: UNC/Michigan/Alabama/Iowa State (Atlantis)
Dec. 16: at Texas Tech

Home and away with La Tech but not sure of the dates and who is home first yet

Jan. 9: at UTEP
Jan. 11: at UTSA (our women host UTSA this same day)
Jan. 16: host UNT (our women play at UNT this same day)
Jan. 18: host Rice
Jan. 23: at UAB
Jan. 25: at MTSU
Jan. 30: host ODU
Feb. 1: host Charlotte
Feb. 6: at Marshall
Feb. 8: at WKU
Feb. 13: host FAU (our women play at FAU this same day)
Feb 15: host FIU

Feb 22: bonus play
Feb 27: bonus play
Mar 1: bonus play
Mar 4: bonus play
Mar 7: bonus play
Mar 11-14: CUSA Tournament

That's a solid schedule for ODU. Some decent competition, even if it's not power schools, and no games that are almost assuredly trash. I wish we all could replicate the ODU schedule most years.

Well, very technically, Washington State/Nebraska and Illinois are power schools. And JMU and UMES are assuredly trash. But yes, the schedule is fine. Wish the home slate could be a little better, but don't we all?

With 4 games vs. the A10 and 3 vs. CAA, we have a chance to put those conference behind us.

I think it is a pretty good schedule (B+).

RE: 2019 MBB non-conference - AustinFromUNT - 08-01-2019 06:40 AM

UNT will be hosting Dayton on 12/17. UNT will also be playing in the Jersey Mike’s Jamaica Classic 11/22-24. Other teams in the tournament are: North Carolina A&T, LSU, Utah State, UMBC, Nicholls, Rhode Island, & Eastern Michigan. The 1st 2 games will be hosted at the Super Pit on 11/16 & 11/19.

I used to think this back in 2014 and 15 but its clear our window is closing...In fact this might be the last year we have a chance at 2 bids....next season Pac 12 and Big 12 join the other P5 conferences going to 20 conference games which pretty much will cut out anyone not in P5 conference for at large bids....We are going to have almost zero chances to get wins now in the non conference because we are essentially in the middle zone. Good enough where teams are scared to play us and not good enough to schedule some home games vs. P5.....Here in 3 or 4 seasons college basketball is going to be college football, not have a chance to even be included...

But unlike football you can schedule good games against good teams that don't have P5 names. I think the key to being successful isn't getting on P5 schedules and instead focusing on brand-name mid and upper-mid programs and conferences. AAC, A10, MVC, Gonzaga/St. Mary's, NMSU, the stronger SoCon and OVC teams, etc. It won't be easy and it may not matter to the tournament selection committee, but at least there's a path that very obviously is closing in football.

Add in the William Carey game, and 3/4 of our home non conference slate has been announced.

Along with Nick Ongenda a 6'10 4 star center

So that leaves Bassey as the only player on the team with D1 experience above 6'5

And it also brings the roster down to 9 players with 1 waiting on a NCAA ruling. A roster that had 16 scholarship players a little over a month ago

1. Ouch to the losses for Western. Was hoping they could be a light for CUSA this season.

2. According to Coach McCasland, UNT has one game left to schedule.

RE: 2019 MBB non-conference - AustinFromUNT - 08-03-2019 07:52 PM

UNT will be hosting OU on 12/5. Should help attendance enormously.
