I like it if it's true, but not so sure it's the case. We'll see though. I believe basketball is a sport we can be very successful in if we'd invest in the program. It's time we move some dirt and get things upgraded in Reed Green. Agree 100%. Maybe "Va Eagle" can post/verify where he came across this information. Sadly, that may be the case for UNC/Michigan/Gonzaga but I don't see many if any scenarios where we get a full $2M for being in it *EDIT* --- I came across this 2017 article from the University of Arizona: But playing in the Battle 4 Atlantis this week should also net Arizona some decent cash: The Wildcats basically get an all-expenses-paid trip to the Bahamas and a $150,000 fee for showing up. The school merely has to pay the difference between commercial airfare that the event would have provided and its charter flight. Begun in 2011, the Battle 4 Atlantis not only offered teams generous packages in exchange for their participation, but also used to throw out a generous performance “donation” of up to $200,000 to schools that play in the winner’s bracket. A really good OOC schedule this year IMO. RE: 2019 Basketball - Noodles - 07-18-2019 10:01 PM We play at home against Southern Illinois. Not sure about the date. With all these games so far (minus William Carey) against D1 teams it appears Ladner is not saving room for Blue Mountain, Mississippi College, Oak Grove HS or Jones Junior College. Granted there's still 6-8 OOC games to be announced so there's still time and room I guess RE: 2019 Basketball - EagNBran - 07-19-2019 10:14 AM Most of the games scheduled were done by Sadler I assume. RE: 2019 Basketball - usm99 - 07-19-2019 09:58 PM Another addition to this year’s roster https://twitter.com/hoop_mia/status/1152369833037750272?s=21 RE: 2019 Basketball - usm99 - 07-20-2019 09:03 AM Nothing unexpected by most but 3 deletions on eligible returning players. Last year’s roster of 15 is now down to 7. https://southernmiss.com/roster.aspx?roster=188&path=mbball Tim Rowe gone Shakur Daniel gone Christian Clark gone RE: 2019 Basketball - usm99 - 07-25-2019 01:27 PM (07-17-2019 09:55 AM)usm99 Wrote:(07-17-2019 09:13 AM)EagNBran Wrote: I'd like to see paperwork on that $2 million. Thanks to Va Eagle for posting this on the main CUSA board: https://www.kxly.com/news/zags-to-play-southern-mississippi-in-first-round-of-battle-4-atlantis-tournament/1094223059 The Battle 4 Atlantis is an annual preseason college basketball tournament, played the week of Thanksgiving on Paradise Island in Nassau, Bahamas. Each team that participates in the Battle 4 Atlantis is awarded $2 million, the most offered by any NCAA tournament. The tournament is televised on ESPN, ESPN 2 and ESPNU. Some of the CUSA games could be a day earlier or later if TV is involved. On each of the 3 weekends only 1 school had confirmed so I just filled in the other game that weekend with the travel partner. All that is left CUSA wise is the La Tech home/away games which appear will be somewhere around Jan 2 and Jan 4th as there are no openings once CUSA play starts that I can tell RE: 2019 Basketball - usm99 - 08-06-2019 02:13 PM USM will host Tulane on December 4th and travel to South Alabama on Nov 9. Still not final schedule but another 2 games closer. My "guess" is a game between the Nov 9 and Nov 19th games along with one between Christmas and Dec 31. With CUSA play in all likelihood opening up on Jan 2 and 4th, I feel like those 2 dates will be the La tech travel partner games. A pretty good write up here by the Sun Herald https://www.sunherald.com/sports/college/conference-usa/university-of-southern-mississippi/article234003752.html RE: 2019 Basketball - EagNBran - 08-16-2019 07:17 AM There are plenty of years to hate on our OOC schedule. This isn’t one. Great job by staff putting it together. I’d like to get rid of the NAIA games except for an early scrimmage against Carey, but this is a good first step. RE: 2019 Basketball - usm99 - 08-23-2019 08:05 AM Last year's schedule was released on 8/23 and here we are this year on 8/23 so the schedule should be released any day now. With football getting started next week with game week, today would seem like a good day to release it. Even on twitter last week the basketball account mentioned the MVC opponent along with schedule being released soon. We will see RE: 2019 Basketball - usm99 - 08-23-2019 02:59 PM (08-06-2019 02:13 PM)usm99 Wrote: USM will host Tulane on December 4th and travel to South Alabama on Nov 9. Our women's schedule was released today and they host La tech on Saturday Jan 4 so I feel like out men will play at La tech on this date. Not sure if we will host La Tech two days before on Jan 2 or if it will be played on a Monday during CUSA season like some of the other CUSA travel partner teams have scheduled. |
