James Madison is the automatic qualifier. Drexel and Northeastern get at-large bids from the CAA. Drexel's match up will be announced later tonight.

There are only about 15 teams from the major conferences taking part in this year's tournament. Purdue, USC, and Utah have all decided that this tournament is beneath them.

First road game in the WNIT since they upset Auburn to go to the final four during their title run in 2013. Drexel is on break this week and they haven't drawn very well the last couple of WNIT games at home, so this makes sense.
It's a winnable game for Drexel. 2nd best CAA team vs. 3rd best Ivy League team. Drexel could play the winner of Georgetown/Sacred Heart. SH is the default team in the NEC, like Robert Morris was last year. They are not a good team, so I will assume that Georgetown will beat them. Usually the top team in the bracket is the home team, so it appears that if Drexel wins, they would play Georgetown at home on Sunday, but that's not always the case.
Drexel is playing in the JMU Quadrant. It appears that JMU is considered the #1 seed and would play all of their games at home up to the final four, if they get that far. Drexel could potentially face them again if both teams win their first 3 games.
Northeastern was misplaced in the Arkansas quadrant with teams from the midwest and the south. They open up at Butler, and if they manage to advance, they'll be doing a lot of travel.

Penn is also in the JMU quadrant, opening at home against American. Penn and Drexel could possibly have a rematch in the 3rd round.
Villanova is playing in the West Virginia bracket, hosting Old Dominion.

Is that how hosting works? My understanding is that after the first round of games, they base it off of who had higher attendance at the previous game. They also let schools opt out of hosting if the other school is willing to host. JMU declined to host a WNIT game a few years back due to the home & garden expo (was it the WNIT title game versus Ok-State?).

I am not super familiar but I thought it required hosting fees and had some to do with attendance. I dont think they actually rank anyone or bracket in such a way. They are more about keeping teams geographically close than anything.

I know that it has nothing to do with previous game attendance. When Drexel won it all in 2013, their last 2 home games were against Florida and Utah. I'm pretty certain that it's based on a bidding process and JMU likely outbid everybody. That would make sense, since JMU draws extremely well for WBB, and probably better than many power conference schools. Also, having the one of the best RPI's in the 64 team field may have helped JMU get a good seed as well.

Gotcha, I just thought that's how it shook out a number of years back when we hosted UVA WBB in the WNIT the first time. I remember looking for the box score from their previous game & saw we edged out their attendance number just barely. Definitely not any real knowledge on my part though, just an assumption.
Big question I have is do they really have seeds for the WNIT? If so, why don't they actually list them on the bracket? It does seem pretty obvious those teams at the top of the bracket are the top-seeds in function, just noticed on the bracket I saw that they don't actually list seeds.

I do not believe there are actual seeds. They are more bracketed by geography than actual merits. Home games are bid on.

Correct that they are not actual seeds, and it is based on geography. But I do notice that at least in the first round, that stronger opponents tend to face weaker ones. JMU (RPI 36), which was probably one of the strongest of the 64 gets NCA&T at home (RPI 202). That's like a 1 vs. 64 matchup and I don't think it was a coincidence.

I already used up my free trials with both Apple and Roku to watch Drexel games earlier this year. I'm seeking another option to watch for free.

JMU will be without the 2 that got hurt against Hofstra. Certainly hurts their ability though they should still be able to beat their opponent

Northeastern's postseason came to an abrupt end last night, falling 89-72 at Butler. So it was not a good day for Northeastern basketball with the men's team getting destroyed in the NCAAT. There didn't appear to be huge WNIT upsets last night.

JMU is still alive after winning 2 and will now face their old coach, Kenny Brooks, and Virginia Tech.

JMU has continued their run and are now in the final four after defeating Virginia Tech (and their former coach Kenny Brooks) followed by beating Georgetown for the 2nd time this season. They will now face Northwestern. The other semi final is Arizona and TCU

It's interesting how things work out. Back in 2013, Drexel lost by 3 in the championship to the Della Donne's. Then they went on their magical run to win the WNIT.
This year JMU suffers the worst upset in CAA Tournament history and this leads them to this magical journal and proof to the selection committee that they deserved an at-large bid. This WNIT run for JMU is probably bringing more excitement to the school and the program than a CAA Championship and 1st round NCAA exit would have brought them.

JMU lost to Northwestern at home last night to end their great season. Arizona will host Northwestern in the final on Saturday.
I just noticed that TCU had both their men and women in the final four this year, but both lost in the semi-finals.
