A Finalist Over 5 Hours Farther From Their Conference Tournament Than Northeastern - EvanJ - 03-17-2019 09:42 AM

As Joe Wright (sctvman) retweeted from Mike Greiner, the Conference USA Final had attendance of 3,017. It was in Frisco, TX between Old Dominion and Western Kentucky. By car according to Google Maps, Old Dominion to Frisco is 5:03 longer than Northeastern to North Charleston. Here's what I tweeted:

Old Dominion to Frisco: 19:53
Western Kentucky to Frisco: 10:33
Mean: 15:13

Northeastern to CAA Tournament: 14:50
Hofstra to CAA Tournament: 11:53
Mean: 13:21.5

I wonder how many conference finals there have ever been where both teams were over ten hours away.

What was the attendance of the CAA Final?

The CAA Final got 2,892, which was lower than CUSA, but it was higher than the CAA's regular season average of 2,409. CUSA had a regular season average of 3,440, and their Final got less than that. Four CUSA teams including both Finalists averaged more than every CAA team. Ten of 14 CUSA teams averaged more than at least half of the CAA teams. In both of them, the team with the worst attendance was in a big city. They were Northeastern and Florida International, which is in Miami.

Was that butts in seats or tickets sold?

Tickets sold like all other attendance. Nobody actually tracks butts in seats.
