This is it; the final game of the regular season. We started our CAA slate with a 73-66 loss to the Cougars way back on December 29th, and close out our schedule down in the other "Port City".

In the game in Trask, Grant Riller torched us to the tune of 31 points on 9-19 shooting, including 4-5 from 3. He was also a perfect 9-9 from the free throw stripe across his 38 minutes of action. Riller is currently # 2 in the league in scoring (22.4 ppg) in CAA-only games behind Hofstra's Wright-Foreman (28.1 ppg).

The Cougars sits in 3rd place at 11-6. They are # 2 in the league in scoring defense (70.4 ppg), # 2 in field goal % (.781), # 3 in Steals (6.5 spg), and # 2 in Turnover Margin (+1.71). However, they do have trouble in the post, as they are last in Offensive Rebounding (30.8 orpg) and shot-blocking (1.5 bpg). The Cougars are also 9th in Assists (11.7 apg) and A/TO Ratio (1.1).

Thank you for pointing that out. Their season average is 2.2. They averaged 3.0 out of conference, and I didn't know that they were having so many fewer blocks in CAA games. Brantley has 12 blocks in 13 out of conference games and 12 blocks in 17 CAA games. Nick Harris has 18 blocks. He had 2 blocks each on January 10 and 12. Since then, he's had 1 block in 11 games and missed 1 game. Nobody else has more than 4 blocks from all games. Riller, Brevin Galloway, and Zep Jasper are first, third, and fourth for them in minutes in all games, and they have 4 blocks combined. Riller wasn't expected to have many blocks, but he has 1 after having 14 last season.

In a guard driven league, shot blocking should naturally go down especially with the pace CofC plays at. While that is still a large drop and is significant, their style of a slower game paired with a guard driven league is likely the reason here.

Anybody know why O’Connell isn’t playing or even on the bench?

You can't breathe on Riller without getting a foul called. I don't get it.

Refs have been bad both ways. Also O’Connell apparently suffered a concussion against W&M last weekend

Didn't he get a concussion recently? Maybe that's why.

He did... I missed that

I understand bad calls both ways. But it's still the norm with Riller.

The bad calls are now leaning heavily against us.

Yeah, the 2nd half has favored CofC. Atrocious refs and atrocious commentators too.

It's Saturday, so you know we get the bottom of the barrel in officials.

Yeah at the end of the day, the stagnant offense cost us this one. One of the best defensive efforts of the season squandered.

I believe we get Elon on Saturday now.

RE: @ Charleston (Saturday, Mar 2, 4 PM) - Seahawk2010 - 03-02-2019 06:04 PM

Man we can't hit 3's anymore. We were 9-37 for 24%. We could have won the game if we shoot a little better.

The slower tempo is better suited for this team. We don't have the offensive firepower to keep up at a fast pace. When we tried to run earlier in the season, we would jack up a quick 3, miss, and the other team gets the rebound and easy bucket on the other end.

Yep. That game is very winnable. Kind of a coin flip game. We would then play Northeastern. A team McGrath has yet to beat and IMO is a bad matchup for us.

So glad it’s over. Another predictable outcome. We have shown that we can play with anyone in this league unfortunately the coaching staff just can’t pull it out of this squad on a regular basis

Defense was good and offense terrible at like 27% today. At least they played some D. Hawks were game planned it sounds like, but I didn't see the game.

RE: @ Charleston (Saturday, Mar 2, 4 PM) - 82hawk - 03-02-2019 08:33 PM

Well, I was wrong. I thought we'd lose 10 in a row to end the season.....

Couldn’t watch more than a few minutes of the first half of this game. I’d like to say I could just wish this season away, write it off, move on, etc. I just feel too bad for Cacock saying that. What a pleasure it’s been to watch him 4 years. Makes me sick to see him go out like this but he’s never quit or let it affect the way he carries himself on or off the court.
