A pragmatic G5 - Fighting Muskie - 02-04-2019 06:22 PM Never going to happen but if we were going to put together G5 leagues that were compact and pragmatic: MWC West: Hawaii, SDSU, SJSU, Fresno St, Nevada, UNLV, Boise St MWC Mountain: Utah St, Wyo, Colo St, AFA, UNM, NMSU, UTEP C-USA West: UTSA, Texas St, UNT, Rice, Ark St, ULL, ULM, LA Tech C-USA East: USM, UAB, USA, Troy, GA St, GA South, FIU, FAU SBC: MTSU, WKU, Coastal, App St, Charlotte, ODU, Liberty, JMU, Marshall MAC: no change AAC: no change G5 Playoff money distribution model changed to a per school model with no caps so that a school in the 16 member C-USA would make the same as a school in the 9 member SBC. RE: A pragmatic G5 - whittx - 02-04-2019 07:08 PM So UMass is still an independent in this scenario? Or would they go to The American? Wow. RE: A pragmatic G5 - Nerdlinger - 02-04-2019 09:01 PM Here's a more pragmatic G5 with regards to geography. I've taken the liberty of demoting Liberty back to FCS, along with EMU, SJSU, ULM, and UMass. American East: Houston, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Lafayette, Rice, Tulane, Tulsa West: New Mexico State, North Texas, SMU, Texas State, UTEP, UTSA CUSA North: Army, Connecticut, Marshall, Navy, Old Dominion, Temple South: Appalachian State, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Middle Tennessee, Western Kentucky MAC East: Akron, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Kent State, Miami-OH, Ohio West: Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Northern Illinois, Toledo, Western Michigan MWC Mountain: Air Force, BYU, Colorado State, New Mexico, Utah State, Wyoming West: Boise State, Fresno State, Hawaii, Nevada, San Diego State, UNLV Sun Belt East: Central Florida, FAU, FIU, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, South Florida West: Arkansas State, Memphis, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Troy, UAB RE: A pragmatic G5 - Kittonhead - 02-04-2019 10:54 PM I have thought condensing down to a G3 might be more pragmatic than having 5 conferences. MWC (UTEP, UTSA, Rice, UNT) AAC (USM, UAB, Georgia St, ODU) This would leave CUSA down to 6 schools whereby they could get up to 16 by pulling in 5 from the MAC and SBC. SBC: Ark St, Louisiana, USA, Georgia So, App St MAC: Ohio, Miami, Toledo, WMU, Northern Ill. Left over would be an underclass of programs: NMSU, TXST, ULM, Troy, Coastal, Liberty, UMass, Buffalo, Kent, Akron, BG, EMU, Ball St, CMU cut out of the CFP money. But it would be enough teams to keep things going as independents. Place New Mexico State, UTEP, UTSA and North Texas in the Mountain East, along with Wyoming, AFA, Colorado State and New Mexico. This could either be a division of the MWC or simply a new, stand alone 8 team conference. To get C-USA back to 12 members, place Liberty in the North Division with Marshall, Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Old Dominion and Charlotte. Everybody else stays put. Whew! That was hard work! RE: A pragmatic G5 - TrueBlueDrew - 02-05-2019 01:40 PM UCF, USF, FAU, FIU + Ga State, Ga Southern + UAB, Troy + Memphis, MTSU + App State, ECU RE: A pragmatic G5 - usffan - 02-05-2019 01:53 PM (02-04-2019 09:01 PM)Nerdlinger Wrote: Here's a more pragmatic G5 with regards to geography. RE: A pragmatic G5 - CarlSmithCenter - 02-05-2019 02:35 PM This could also work: MWC West: Hawaii, SDSU, SJSU, Fresno St, Nevada, UNLV, Boise St MWC Mountain: Utah St, Wyo, Colo St, AFA, UNM, NMSU, UTEP C-USA West: UTSA, Texas St, UNT, Rice, Ark St, LA Tech C-USA East: USM, UAB, USA, Troy, ULL, ULM *UT-Arlington and Little Rock are full members but don’t play football, no divisions will be set up for basketball SBC North: MTSU, WKU, ODU, Liberty, Marshall, Charlotte SBC South: Coastal, App St, GA St, GA South, FIU, FAU MAC: Add UConn** and Army** and eliminate divisions, with 8 conference games (3 permanent, and 5 of the remaining 10 every other year). UConn joins the new Big East in all other sports but has to agree to a certain number of OOC home-and-home MBB and WBB deals with MAC schools each year; Army agrees that at least one “Home” conference game will be played in Greater NYC at either Red Bulls Arena, Yankee Stadium, CitiField or MetLife Stadium in exchange for no more than 1-2 Tuesday or Wednesday games. **FB-only affiliate member AAC: UMass replaces UConn as full member. RE: A pragmatic G5 - CAJUNNATION - 02-05-2019 05:20 PM MWC, AAC, MAC, no change. CUSA ends the SBC and transforms college football by adding NMSU all SBC FB schools except ULM. The group of 24 schools are broken up into 4 pods of 6...... The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly Division New Mexico State/UTEP/UTSA/Texas State/Rice/North Texas - a group of schools stumbling around in the Texas heat looking for a payday. The Jerry Clower Division Louisiana/Louisiana Tech/Arkansas State/Southern Miss/UAB/South Alabama - a bunch of bombastic, Southern gentlemen telling large tales and having even larger appetites. The Burt Reynolds Division Troy/Georgia State/Georgia Southern/FIU/FAU/Coastal Carolina - looking at a map, I see a whole lot of back roads for ole Bandit or Gator to go cavorting with cute females and run from the law. What else is college for? The Oh Brother Where Art Thou Division Middle Tennessee/Western Kentucky/Marshall/Old Dominion/App State/Charlotte - That movie was full of top notch Bluegrass, and so is this division.
