Football recruiting - banker - 01-29-2019 11:15 PM

Marshall had a really good weekend on the commitment front, now #1 class in CUSA according to 247.

So we don't get to keep our trophy from the first signing period? :)

RE: Football recruiting - Side Show Joe - 01-30-2019 06:33 PM

It looks like they have 26 commits. Can they sign 26 recruits, or are they oversigning? Let's see how many of their recruits actually sign, qualify, and show up on their roster.

Done. Btw, we're #1 now on Rivals, too.

We’ll see how it translates to on field production. I’m optimistic, but I’ll reserve judgment.

Congrats! This is the site I go by. 247 has some guys in their crystal ball predictions committing to schools that haven't even offered them a scholarship.

RE: Football recruiting - WKUYG - 01-30-2019 09:32 PM

I personally dont give a **** about football recruiting rankings because Western had better luck with the bottom rated players than the top. But I did say the ratings would change once teams had more players committed.

Coaching matters a lot more than recruiting ratings and 85 to 90% of the class is 2 years removed before paying off
system matters even more so...if a player doesn't fit in the system. No matter his rating, he's not going to workout more times than not.

As for the 2019 class...if judged off last year, UNT's class would be 5th

#1 was 173.58
#2 165.85
#3 163.90
#4 162.18

UNT 2019...158.82

RE: Football recruiting - PSCNiner - 01-30-2019 09:33 PM

Transfers dont even count in these rankings. Charlotte is doing very well with transfers and hs players.

RE: Football recruiting - WKUYG - 01-30-2019 09:39 PM

Here is a couple CUSA schools with class ranking and how their season went

2012 #1 class
2013 #2 class 1-11
2014 #3 class 3-9
2015 #5 class 9-5
2016 #6 class 7-6
2017 #2 class 8-5
2018..............6-5

COACHING MATTERS

2012 6th
2013 6th..8-4
2014 5th...8-4
2015 11th..12-2
2016 7th...11-3
2017 4th..6-7
2018 6th ..3-9

Rivals has Charlotte with 5 guys signed. 1 of those five will not sign until next month.

We’ve got transfers coming from NC State, Tenn, PennSt, USF and NC Central and walk on that started on the line at ECU in 2017.

The freshman will be a nice blend of good college football players and lottery picks. I’m impressed with what Healy and company have done in 45 days. I imagine they might grab a player or two more and, pocket three scholly’s for summer transfers.

This might be the best class we’ve signed and a lot of newcomers should see the field in 2019, which is something Lambert didn’t do much of, so I hope this improves depth.

RE: Football recruiting - banker - 01-30-2019 11:26 PM

I also really don't care about recruit rankings like I used to, seen it not work out for far too long. Our best players on defense last year were Gant and Hancock, both former walk ons. I would rather have a two star or walk on that really wants to prove people wrong than a 4 star who believes everything should be handed to them. Of course, if you can get a highly rated guy who is also highly motivated, that works pretty well. Problem is that those guys don't usually end up at G5 schools.

RE: Football recruiting - MUther - 01-31-2019 12:11 AM

I've seen recruiting turn to crap as well in production (2016). I just wanted to keep it going because it irritates some of the fans. Like the ones that say "I don't give a @#$%" but then post a bunch of stats in a thread they don't care about to show why they don't care about it, lol. If you really don't care you can just scroll by threads that say "Football Recruiting," like this one does. I assure you no one cares why you don't care.

you drunk, either that or cant read? your post makes no f'ing sense......

not caring about how someone rates a class has NOTHING to do with the point you tried (failed) to make.

I didnt care about it when Western had the #1 class till signing day, year before last. I'm sure Marshall's classes are well ahead of Western's most years. Same goes with S. Miss...

not only does coaching matters...so do championships. Recruiting classes dont if they did Western wouldn't own 2 of those and Marshall would owe more than one. Now run along, pumpkin. But before you do let me explain the stats...

it shows why I dont care about class rankings

When it comes to championships...they dont mean ****

RE: Football recruiting - ghostofclt! - 01-31-2019 07:31 AM

clt says Charlotte leads MBB recruiting and will be top 3 in FB.

RE: Football recruiting - MU ATO - 01-31-2019 08:25 AM

As Ive always said I never worry about Coach Holiday and staff ability to recruit. I also laugh at recruiting rankings especially the ones that come out in summer and fall. February is all that matters. It also does t matter unless you have a bunch of 5 stars it’s a pure crap shoot and coaching.

Rivals is also more realistic with the amount of 3 stars that exist. We have 9-3 stars on Rivals and 20-3 stars on 247. I call bull on that. It looks like 247's formula just gives 3 stars to everyone.

If you go by your comment earlier that the class is 2 years removed from paying off, the results you posted above seem to follow the trend that the recruiting class ranking does matter and impacts win column.

Coaching/system is the most important factor in CUSA. The class rankings could be the difference of 26 players signed vs 20. Class ranking is not based on who signed higher rated players...mostly who has the largest class. Not always the case but more times than not.

I will trade out a #1 ranked class for a middle of the pack class for a good coach running a exciting system, that can put 40 points on the scoreboard.

Nothing is always....

part of each class will never step on the fb field

Below is Western bottom 25 ranked recruits since 2010 (lowest ranked) and 3 of those played in the NFL and 3 or 4 others started on 2 conference championship teams
