Well i remember when EJ once said, "there are more good coaches than there are jobs", so we should be fine.

Am I leaving anyone out?

Are they going to give the OC position to Scotty Walden??? C'mon. Need to get someone hired soon. Btw, I think it's safe to say we're going to see a completely different offense in 2019.

Eddie Hicks went to Charlotte, not Louisville

I mean, I don't think it's nearly as bad as y'all believe. Most of our commits signed in December before this happened. Most of those recruits had to know changes would be coming. We're not Alabama (cue BDR). We're going to lose assistants. It happens all the time at G5 schools. The important thing is to bring in people that will bring us to the next level. If they're hired away after, so be it, but leave us better than you found us.

And honestly, who's mad that the people leaving are our offensive coaches? Our offense has been bad for years, it was just covered up by Nick and Ito. Perhaps this will be the year we get offensive coaches that know what they're doing. If so, we'll run the conference easily and give fits to State. And while I'm sure Bama will beat us, our Defense held their own with Auburn who put up a lot of points at times this year. If we had an offense, we would have beaten them as well.

Thanks, TTT. I think we needed a dedicated thread for all the staff changes.

I don't understand why we haven't named a replacement for our OC position. Hopson had to be seriously thinking who on his staff would replace Dawson well before Dawson was gone. Dawson was interviewing last season for other jobs. He sucks and any decent HC would be considering who in his ranks could fill that role.

Everyone seems to think Walden is the guy. Then we have Kansas hire our RB coach as their OC. What is up?

“We are so excited to add an offensive coordinator with the experience of Les Koenning,” Miles said in a release. “He has proven to be an innovative offensive mind who has great success recruiting and developing offensive skill players, particularly at the quarterback position.”

Koenning, who has coached football nearly four decades, has previous offensive coordinating experience. That includes leading offenses at Alabama (2001-02), Texas A&M (2003-07), Mississippi State (2009-13) and UAB (2016-17) and overseeing future pro quarterbacks Dak Prescott and Brodie Croyle. Koenning also was receivers coach at Texas in 2014.

Updated. Not sure why I had Louisville in mind. Did we lose someone to Louisville?

Guessing Hop will go back to his Alcorn roots to pouch some coaches again

RE: Official off-season football coaches hired/fired/poached thread - TTT - 01-23-2019 09:34 PM

Alcorn State OC Ryan Stancheck will be our OL coach. Don't know much about him but he's a fairly young WVU player/grad. Started at OL for WVU for 48 consecutive games. Played in the '06 Sugar Bowl and '08 Fiesta bowl. Drafted as a FA to the Falcons in '09. Played arena league football in '10 then was a quality control coach at FSU that same year. Was offensive grad assistant at Indiana from '11-13. He's been involved with Alcorn's run game since 2016 and has improved their rushing every year. His '16 team rushed for over 150 yards against #20 Arkansas. Looks like Alcorn has been top 10 in rushing offense and total offense and lead the SWAC in least sacks allowed.

Considering our oline couldn't get a push on Jackson State's DL I'd say this is a nice pickup.

RB, DB or TE coach next from Alcorn? Not saying its a bad thing. About all he can afford. Maybe Delta State coach....

RE: Official off-season football coaches hired/fired/poached thread - TTT - 01-24-2019 09:51 AM

Here's an interesting stat:

Alcorn State's rushing vs. Jackson State in 2018:
50 carries 217 yards 4.3 ypc 1 TD, longest run: 20 yards

Southern Miss' rushing vs. Jackson State in 2018:
45 carries 202 yards 4.5 ypc 1 TD, longest run: 18 yards
