UConn would consider dropping one of the athletic programs because of the budget - Agust - 01-19-2019 04:26 PM

The AD said it would be a last resort thing but that it would even be considered an option is a surprise.

In the article they are said to wait on the new tv deal and take into account that it should help by making a "dent". So i guess it's not going to be a huge contract by any means. but if UConn would get rid of it's football program would they even stay in the American? and who would we get to replace them in all sports or just football?

i thought about adding it but the discussion would deviate from the OP.

one was uconn doesn't know how to budget.

and this would focus on life after no uconn football.

They won’t get rid of fball. It would be one of the sports downstream like golf or tennis

In the new reality of the haves and have nots, I think it would be wise for many (if not most) G5 to drop to the minimum # of sports to be D1.

I am kinda surprised some D2-D3 schools don't go to a 7 on 7 type format. Cheaper travel and costs. Something fun and different that the D1 schools.

I don't believe they need to drop any of their current sports, especially Football, unless their intention is to be in the BigEast. They need better leadership in the Athletic Department... They have never made a good coaching hire since joining the BigEast, and prior to that Skip Holtz was the best coach they have hired in the recent history.

What? Edsall 1.0 was better than Skip. The question is whether Edsall 2.0 if better than either of the two.

And we need to cut 4-6 non-revenue sports.

I grant you that, only 2 losing seasons out of 7 as v1.0.

The obsession/preference some have with Southern Miss is mind boggling. I suppose you may have history, but they are essentially UMass South.

You obviously don't know the Real Housewives of Central-ish Connecticut.

Quit spreading lies. Stookey is a Boston gurl. We don't associate with their kind.

Temple dropped baseball softball and mens track several years ago. Had to be done, though there are several in the local press who haven’t forgiven them.
