Kent golfers in the pros - 2019 Edition - bopol - 01-10-2019 06:03 PM

Might as well kick this off.

Ok, Chase Johnson is working on qualifying for the Latinoamerica PGA Tour. After 3 (of 4) rounds, he is tied for 8th. I believe the Top 11 get PGA-LA Tour cards. Note that this is the route followed by Corey Conners a few years ago and it worked out for him.

And Mackenzie Hughes will be playing in the Sony Open in Hawaii and should be starting his round just about now.

Corey Conners also in Hawaii and is 2-under through 16, which puts him in 26th place as I type.

Conners wasn't listed in the "inside the field" article that the PGA does for every tournament, so he must have been an alternate that got a spot. I hope he takes advantage of it.

Looking good for Johnson, who finished 9 under, tied for 5th. Lots of players on the course, but lots of players that need to have a great final 9 holes to get ahead of Chase. Welcome to the Latinoamerica Tour.

Conners and Hughes are in very good shape to make the cut. Lots of players on the course still though. It's Hawaii. They are like 8 hours behind us.

Connors with a sweet 64 today to move up the leaderboard. Looks like a several way tie for third. Clutch final round!

And that will be worth about 132 points for the Fed Ex Cup. By my back of envelope calculation, Conners will have about 330 points already, with 380 or so usually needed to get into the Top 125 and keep (get back) your full PGA card. I hope he can keep getting into PGA tournaments because he's playing some excellent golf right now.

Hughes ended up like 78th place. His 3rd round was weak and they did the MNF thingy, which means, you get prize money and Fed Ex points, but you don't play the 4th round. They do this when too many people (like over 75) end up making the cut.

And the web.com season is kicking off today in the Bahamas where Ryan Yip is playing. I didn't see Ian Holt on the field list though.

After hunting a little, I found out that Conners was a Monday qualifier for the Sony Open. That is the second time this year he's done the Monday qualifying thing.

Looks like Ryan Yip is going to miss the cut in the web.com Bahamas Great Exuma Open.

Conners missed the cut at the Great Desert Open by two strokes.

I’m not 100% positive, but I think this week the cut is after the third round instead of the second. There are three different courses and I think each player plays each course to make things equitable. I know they consider the PGA West course is considered the toughest scoring course.

correct cut is after todays 3rd round. still has an outside shot.

My bad. Good news. Something to follow today in the snow.

RE: Kent golfers in the pros - 2019 Edition - bopol - 01-23-2019 09:08 PM

Conners didn't make the cut.

Well, to the web.com out of synch tour where the 2nd tournament of the season finished today (Great Bahamas Abaco something or another) and Ryan Yip finished a strong week tied for 11th, kicking off a solid start to the season.

RE: Kent golfers in the pros - 2019 Edition - bopol - 01-25-2019 06:23 PM

Hughes will make the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open, but is far behind the leaders.

RE: Kent golfers in the pros - 2019 Edition - bopol - 01-27-2019 09:11 PM

4 straight rounds of shooting 2 under, 70 and Hughes gets a tie for 29th place and a $45K paycheck for the weekend 's work.

RE: Kent golfers in the pros - 2019 Edition - bopol - 02-01-2019 07:44 PM

Hughes will miss the cut at the Waste Management Open.

Ryan Yip is tied for 8th going into the weekend on the web.com tour.

Another strong week for Yip as he finished tied for 8th in the web.com tour event this weekend.

Ok, it's been a rough Feb. so far, but we've got action.

* Puerto Rico Open: The second PGA event this weekend behind the WGC Mexico Tournament features two Kent golfers. Of course, Corey Conners is out there trying to chase enough Fed Ex points to earn his PGA card back given the opportunity to play in secondary tournaments. He golfed a solid 3 under today and is tied for 13th. The second golfer is a surprise: Taylor Pendrith did the Monday qualifying thing and shot par, tied for 61st after the first round. This is Pendrith's third PGA tournament and he has only made one cut (RBC Canadian Open in 2014), so I'm hoping for a big weekend.

RE: Kent golfers in the pros - 2019 Edition - bopol - 02-22-2019 07:43 PM

Both Conners and Pendrith had lousy second rounds and miss the cut. Blah!

RE: Kent golfers in the pros - 2019 Edition - bopol - 03-16-2019 11:45 AM

It's been a while, but there hasn't been much good news.

So, Corey Conners is playing the Players Championship this weekend at Sawgrass. He made the field based on his performance this year (4th from the bottom in the field line), but has played well and is currently tied for 24th. He has only made 4 of 11 cuts this year (including this week), but he's taken full advantage of the cuts he made which includes a second and a tie for third. A good weekend will get him very close to earning his full PGA privileges back for next year and getting into more tournaments.

RE: Kent golfers in the pros - 2019 Edition - bopol - 03-23-2019 06:16 PM

Catching up...

Conners didn't have a great Sunday last week and ended up tied for 41st. He now has 346 Fed Ex points. Last year, it took 383 Fed Ex Points to keep the PGA card (125th place).

Mackenzie Hughes has some serious work ahead of him to keep his card as he has just 48 points, but he is having a nice weekend at the Valspar Championship, where he is tied for 14th heading into the final round. Conners did not play.

And Ryan Yip missed the cut at whatever web.com tour event is going on this weekend.
