FIU adds two Arkansas transfers - Fish - 01-09-2019 02:46 PM

FIU announced today two Arkansas Razorback transfers will be joining the football team: Maleek Williams and Alexy Jean-Baptiste. Both played high school football in South FL. Although Maleek Williams was evaluated as a 4-star prospect by ESPN, both guys were consensus 3-star players out of high school according to the 247 composite.

I believe both of these guys will have to sit out the 2019 season. There are rumors FIU will add another P5 transfer in this same class. This is one reason our recruiting class is on the smaller size for now.

FIU announced another P5 transfer today (the one I hinted at in the previous post): Joshua Turner, a CB from Iowa. Turner was a consensus 3-star recruit out of high school. The FIU football roster is really started to explode with some quality talent compared to a few years ago. Butch Davis is doing some great things. Even if these guys don't become starters, although I suspect they will, the amount of depth and competition on this roster can only help the team.

Rumors are there may a grad transfer coming to FIU from another P5 program for the 2019 season.

Hah I thought of that game as soon as I saw the announcement. Funny enough, Maleek Williams had his career high in rushing yards against NT I believe. Hopefully he continues to play well against C-USA teams. :)

Butch Davis and staff are doing a great job of bringing in talent and coaching them up to their potential. Depth will be a major positive come 2020, maybe even 2019 to a lesser degree. Exciting times indeed for FIU Foitball these days.

Morris is cleaning house after that 2-10 year. There's an absolute ton of players transferring.

Can't really hurt, though they have tried many times, it is indeed impossible to drop out of last place in the SEC.

FIU officially added another P5 transfer.... The biggest one yet. Jeremiah (JJ) Holloman is officially on the roster and will be eligible for the 2020 season. Holloman was projected to be Georgia's #1 WR before domestic violence allegations caused him to be kicked off the team. The charges have since been dropped. I am not enthusiastic about adding players with such backgrounds, but there is no denying JJ's football abilities. He was an ESPN top 300 prospect coming out of high school (#15 overall WR). A freak athlete.

Williams had 5 carries for 74 yards and a TD against North Texas. That seems decent on paper. But when you actually look at the film, it is less impressive. 68 of those yards and the TD came on one run with 53 seconds left in the game, against our 3rd and 4th team backups, and after UNT was already in celebration mode. So, when the game actually meant something, Williams rushed for 6 yards on 4 carries. I'm sure Williams has a lot of talent. Arkansas would not have signed him if he didn't. But, his game against North Texas was not that great.

I do applaud Davis for improving an already talented FIU roster. I have said it before, I think Butch Davis is the best coach in C-USA, and I believe the future of C-USA East is FIU. I expect a very good 2019 season for the Panthers.

While i believe FIU is getting very good and there is a good chance they carry the success they had last season into future i think its very amateurish to say "FIU is the future of CUSA East" after one successful season. Again i am not debating the premise they can be very good but to state something that outlandish after one season is kinda surprising. I still believe Marshall is the Torch bearer of the east until someone dethrones them with consistent success.
