Caver needs to turn it back a notch and be more of a facilitator. He gets frantic when he tries to force things. Need X to stop be so on and off and get consistent. Right now you just shut down BJ and hope Caver is cold and forces things.

Unfortunately, we cannot afford for Caver/Stith to turn it back a notch unless the defense does better than it did tonight (and opposition doesnt shoot lgbts out)

We would really miss 1-10 from 3 . He has to stop jacking shots up early in the clock. It is not helping anything. Kithcart makes shots, maybe he needs to get those shots.

Caver had 20 points on 18 shots, which is not bad. 1-11 sucked but hit almost all of his 2s and made 5 free throws. Kitchcart is similar to Caver in efficiency, albeit with less shots. (More shots would likely mean less efficiency). Kithcart is not the shooter Caver is.

Im not sure you (and a couple other) harp on our beat player.
I'm not sure why you overrate that dude so much. Surely, you understand that terrible step back threes that he has no chance of making early in the shot clock are bad for the team, and that standing around pounding the rock for 15 seconds is not good for offense. You probably should also understand that 2 assistance in 40 minutes from your point guard will rarely get it done. He is good, maybe even very good, when he is focused on facilitating. He is not good at all when he is trying to be A.I.

My son had a basketball game last night and I forgot all about this one. Glad I didn't waste any time watching it or any agony following this thread last night. Looks like we will be battling 13 other crappy teams in the Cowboys training facility for a 15 seed.ugh

RE: Florida Atlantic - Monarchist13 - 01-11-2019 08:11 AM

If everyone could keep the discussions on this thread to the actual game and not taking shots at each other, that would be great. The same goes for the Herd and upcoming FIU thread.

You're all fans of ODU. And many of us are alums. Treat each other like it.

Really bad loss. FAU is not a very good team at all. The defense did not show up. We continue to play 2 guys who are absolutely no threat offensively. Last night, both of those guys were horrendous on the defensive side of the ball as well. Neither one of these guys would start on any other team in the country. How can your worst rotation be the guys that start the game for you?

I think that's a bit of a stretch.

It's not.

It really is mind boggling. We have focused a lot on Robinson in the starting lineup, but just as bad, as you mentioned, is the fact that he starts alongside Carver, and that lineups with 2 bigs are clearly our least productive this year.

I'll never understand it. I would love for someone who thinks they know what they are talking about to come on here and tell me why Jones is playing these two guys in the starting lineup. I don't care what people say about minutes. The starting lineup sets the tone for every game. I am so lost with this.

I’ll tell you why 757. Robinson worked with the Russians and they have a tape on Jeff Jones that he doesn’t want anyone to see. Either I start or it’s over.

That has to be it!!!

They are not a bad team. They were 10-5 and now have beat us ! Their guards and Forwards ate us up.

RE: Florida Atlantic - ODU804 - 01-11-2019 11:02 AM

After a night to sleep on this mess i have come to the conclusion that this was only a bad loss if you think we are truly a top 75 team. At this point, there isn't anything to say that's the case. We are a team that if we play our best can beat many of the top 50 teams in the country. If we don't, we can lose to teams in the 200's. Essentially, we are a top 150 team who could potentially do damage to better teams which is why major schools don't want to play teams like us. This year, FAU happens to be one of those teams as well.

Could it be JJ is, well, not that great a coach?

It certainly could be, but I think this one is obvious to anyone, so there has to be some rationalization that has brought him to this decision. I posited my belief based on what I have seen over the years in another thread. It is a simple one. He has some aversion to changing his starting lineups. This isn't the first time he has gone through a year with a starting lineup that may have made since in game one, but didn't make any since after game 5.
