I do too.
The overwhelming likelyhood is that I am wrong.
Mine was just one of many pure guesses, not intended to be a diagnosis, just another guess.

Re-entering a beer league game and re-entering an NCAA competition after evaluation are two different things.

But they can see the signs of a ruptured bicep tendon and determine that they aren't fit for competition.

From my armchair I am almost certain the he suffered a tear of his external occipital protuberance.

Sure hope Ed Miller will update us on Stith’s status. No radio coaches show. No TV coaches show. No newspaper ODU basketball blog. Information is sure hard to come by now-a-days.

RE: Stith Injury - odu09 - 12-24-2018 08:02 AM

If you were the coaching staff, would you put that info out there, or let Marshall/WKU assume they have to prepare for BJ all the same?

Mac, you couldn't be more accurate. This is Division 1 sports. The fans are loyal and sincere and deserve to know a little more than the coaches sometime share. As far as Stith goes maybe it's too early to know anything but I would guess he already has been checked out by a doctor and they know something. But the big picture is we don't get but information on any players. Earlier this season Kithcart had a minor injury of some sort ( I heard from a good source a sprained ankle) but nothing was ever said. I think it was the VCU game we noticed that Kithcart was not warming up but just dribbling around half court while the team went through warmups. Nothing was ever said about him not being available to play. One small solution would be an injury update in the pregame show. At least then the fans may know what to expect.

Why are you singling me out?

Because your's is the only one that's clearly unreasonable. If the training staff is doing their job, he doesn't reenter the game with significant connective tissue injury like a rupture or significant sprain. If you rupture a tendon as important and the bicep there is gonna be immediate strength loss and that's a massive red flag. The fact he reenters makes you think its a muscle strain. Pinched never is plausible but odd. Minor sprain plausible too but less likely they'd push the issue against Morgan State. This is all contingent on training staff doing their job, which I'm sure they did.

From looking at the replay the immediate loss of strength appears to be exactly what happened. That appeared to be the case when he reentered as well.

I reentered the game I was playing too. It wasn't until a couple of days later that the pain got worse, the bruising appeared, and I could no longer throw or swing the bat at all.

The fact is that no trainer, or even a doctor, can make an RPT diagnosis w/o an X-ray or and MRI.

Like I said it was a guess, like everyone else's on here.

This is inaccurate/false.

This is getting silly. I am not a doctor, but i am repeating what both my doctor, and my orthopedic surgeon said when they strongly suspected that I had that injury.
Tests called the Hook test or a Ludington test are strong indicator, but since the popeye muscle and bruising are not usually immediate, only an MRI (not even an Xray) can tell you for sure at the time. Can a trainer even do these? I am not sure

Since you are apparently a doctor, please explain how that diagnosis can be made at the time of the injury otherwise.

RE: Stith Injury - ODUalum78 - 12-24-2018 12:26 PM

This is interesting as it would appear that the only shoulder injury that would safely allow for a return to competition would be a shoulder strain.
Any other shoulder injury, (besides a pinched nerve or just an impact bruise) that would cause the obvious pain and reduced function that we saw with Stith, involves tearing of tissue.

https://nyulangone.org/conditions/shoulder-sprains-strains-tears/types

Hopefully it was nothing more than a strain.

This is the only vid I can find at 00:46 and it really doesn't show anything.

I think everyone should STOP posting on this thread until we hear something concrete from inside ODU. We are all very wrapped up with the success so far in this season and are living and dying for news. Let’s pause posting anything until we hear facts!

I agree.
I think the news will be good.
Based on Fatalisk's pronouncement that Stith would not have been cleared to return otherwise, then it is likely that the injury was only a strain.

Since it's been a good season so far, we're just waiting for something to go wrong.

The bottom falling out is part of being an ODU fan. Like 95 we were a top 15 then Odell went down.

Also had 3 very good shooters on that team, Petey, Jones, and Mullin and an undersized center in Harvey. But man they could flat out ball.
