OT - but related.. - Up2stuff - 12-12-2018 08:38 AM

to our problems of conference affiliation. Indirectly related, but related - or, at least in my opinion it is.

How can one of the smallest states in population have the 4th highest government workers workforce?

I understand the need for government jobs. But almost 20%? This show the complete incompetence of the leadership in the state for the last 100 years. It's obvious Southern Miss isn't the only one with leadership issues. Please elect some people that can bring in real jobs to the state. Government does not produce anything. Government jobs, although required, are not going to build wealth for the state. In fact, since it's taxes that pay the salary, it only takes wealth from one group and hands it to another. Bring in private sector jobs that actually build wealth. It's not rocket science (although rocket science would be nice). 07-coffee3

For the record - this is not or at least should not be political. Both sides of the aisle should see the logic in this.

fwiw, the feds just passed legalizing hemp in the latest farm bill.....now it's up to the 'sip to ram it through passage (a group tried to tie it to legalizing hemp and mj in prop 48 in '16 which failed to get the req'd sigs to get on the ballot)

the setting is there....the question is will this bassackwards state pounce on opportunity or watch it fly by once again....

RE: OT - but related.. - EagNBran - 12-12-2018 09:32 AM

Not sure Marijuana is the answer to our economic problem. As studies in Colorado have shown, what has happened is more teens dropping out of school. I don't believe it's the answer.

RE: OT - but related.. - stinkfist - 12-12-2018 09:45 AM

industrial hemp isn't the same as mj...

one does not have to be tied to the other..

Got a good chuckle out of that one. But if not, at least no one would worry about it...04-cheers

Seriously, I'll have to let stink speak for himself..but Hemp has nothing to do with legalizing Marijuana.

Hemp can be used to produce CBD oil. CBD oil can be extracted in a way that no side affects. It is useful in a wide range of
ailments. It is much safer than any of the opioid based prescriptions and is not additive. Pure CBD oil can actually be extracted with no THC.

So I have to agree with Stink - it could be good for MS economy.

Hemp

that's the point....the two don't have to be tied to the same legislation...

Marijuana legalization has basically been a disaster in Colorado. The reason isn't because marijuana was legalized per se, rather the predictable way the government completely screwed up the execution and follow-through. Surely everyone saw that coming from about a billion miles away.

b/c it's still sched 1 (which is insane)...

until the feds drop it to alcohol status, the states and vendors are screwed managing cash...

I'm betting that happens during trump's tenure...

Again, Hemp has nothing to do with the legalization of marijuana. The problem is Western Medicine has demonized everything that doesn't fit into their pharmaceutical "Medicine". The reason is because the big drug companies cannot patent it. Hemp has been on the Federal controlled substance list due to it being related to marijuana. However, CBD oil is legal in all States. The problem has been that HEMP (used to produce CBD Oil) has been on the Federal controlled substance list due to it being in the same family as marijuana. It CANNOT get you high if it does not contain enough THC.

CBD Oil is safe and does not have the dangerous side effects of the pharmaceutical opioid based pain relief prescriptions. You don't get high and you don't get addicted.

A personal story for anyone interested:
I am lucky enough to work on projects all over the world. I have someone very close to me that has chronic pain that doctors cannot explain. As my colleagues around the world became my friends, medical topics/care naturally come into topics of conversation. When the topic of medicines came up in the past, my colleagues (from Japan, China, Korea, Germany, France to name a few) always encouraged me to try medicines outside the western pharmaceutical medicines. Most other countries believe that it is a combination of both western medicines and holistic medicines that work best. Western medicines give instant relief of symptoms. Holistic medicines are meant to heal. You will be hard pressed to find one pharmaceutical medicine meant to heal a disease. They want you on their meds for life - more money for them. Growing up in a western country, with western medicines and being educated to believe in them made me struggle with this. But, I decided to investigate. I happen to have BlueCross insurance. As I researched, I find out that BlueCross did a study. They had 1 group of patients going only to western medical doctors, 1 group that used only eastern (Holistic) doctors, and a 3rd group that used a combination of western and holistic doctors working together. The best results (both on satisfaction of patients and cost) came from the combination. I decided to try it. I had been having a medical problem that had gotten so bad I could not travel for my job. I had been going to the typical doctors we all go to (specialist). I even had my gall bladder removed. This went on for 2 years. I literally thought I was dying and the doctors were missing something big. Finally I took the advise of my colleagues and found a group of doctors that do exactly what BlueCross researched - a group of western and holistic doctors that work together. They did 3 test, and from that they were able to tell me exactly what was causing my problems. They also confirmed that if I had not found this problem, I would have more than likely had stomach or intestinal cancer within 6 months. Within 2 weeks I was better, and over the following year, I had healed completely. Little did I know that on top of healing the problem I went in for, they also made a lot of other things go away - RLS, insomnia to name a couple. The person in my life that I mentioned above also started going to these doctors. Not only is the pain less, the body is beginning to heal itself. I also have a brother that had a chronic migraine headache for 8 years (yes - I meant to say "a chronic migraine" because it never goes away). He went to every doctor from Mobile to Houston to Jackson to New Orleans. All they wanted to do was give him pain meds. He is now going to this group of doctors and after one month the headache is letting up and he is already taking less medicine. One of my colleagues and very good friends in Germany wife had breast cancer - stage IV and very aggressive. They went to the western and holistic doctors. She is very much alive due to this. No, HEMP is not used in all holistic medicines, but it is nice to see our government finally seeing the light when it comes to things like this. Count on big Pharma fighting this tooth and nail because as Holistic medicines become accepted in our western culture, it will bite their revenue.

We can now queue BDR for his UFO and Bigfoot pictures. But I need no one's approval on this. I know it works and I'm very much still alive because of it. 04-cheers

Mississippi

Partly, it’s a result of being a small population state. We have too many universities for our numbers, and the state’s solution to demographic shifts over the last century has been to open more satellite campuses without closing underperforming universities, which only makes the problem worse. The same goes for DPS facilities, DOT facilities, etc. The idea of “abandoning” areas of the state that other jobs both white and blue collar have already left is anathema politically.

We don’t help ourselves by electing three transportation commissioners, 82 county governments, an insurance commissioner, etc.

The good news is that political power should be following the population pattern after a few years.

yeah....their problem is dealing with cash only transactions, lack of banking support, and the security it takes to protect their inventory/day-to-day cash flow....this is why mj being sched 1 is a YUGE headache for the states that have legalized....only the US congress can fix this issue....don't be surprised if it happen by '20....DJT will sign it w/o thinking twice....

to your point, the dispensaries themselves are cooking like nobody's business...

DMB - living out of State I miss some of the news. What did you mean by the statement in bold?
