ODU vs bill/mary - ODUDJ96 - 12-02-2018 09:22 PM

They are well-coached and knock down threes with ease. I’m glad to hear our seniors are hungry for this win. In the old CAA days, this game was a joke/gimme - but they certainly have gotten the better of us in recent years. It’s time for Ahmad and BJ to set matters straight. The vcu win is incomplete without this win. Plus - we all want that t-shirt to celebrate the sweep!

Bill and Hairy was a devastating loss last year, psychologically maybe our worst.

I am excited as we are SO close to the trifecta this year!

W&M is 2-6. We better blow them out

True, though one of those two wins came against St. Joseph's. ODU *should* win but the Tribe are probably better than their record indicates.

We haven't beaten Bill or Gary in a few years. I really want that to change this week 02-13-banana

RE: ODU vs bill/mary - Gilesfan - 12-03-2018 09:22 AM

They shoot well and ummmm...thats about it. They don't play a lick of defense and don't rebound very well. They've played some close games and have 2 studs on the roster.

I hope its not close, but they are much better than record would indicate. Simply because they can score.

But St. Joes has also lost 4 of 5, they are in a bad slump. Teams go up and down over the season. We are trending up and they are trending down even tho they beat us.

Just win. Rivalry game, could be close. Hope we win by 10. The guys do sound hungry.

St. Joes has played 4 top 100 teams in the first 8 games. Im not sure how much of a slump; they just had a bad half vs. the Tribe. The other losses are to UCF, West Virginia, and Temple.

RE: ODU vs bill/mary - bigblue78 - 12-03-2018 11:29 AM

Wednesday 7:00 at the Ted: William & Mary (2-6). ESPN+

Results to date: High Point (79-69); Dusquesne (70-84); Illinois-Chicago (95-100 OT); Notre Dame (64-73); Radford (72-81); St Joe’s (87-85); Marshall (64-84); George Mason (84-87).

Last game: William and Mary rode a hot start to a 42-36 lead at HT, but and even hotter GMU (67% FG second half) rallied the Patriots to a 87-84 final. Nathan Knight led the tribe with 22 pts (6-9 FG, 8-9 FT) in just 23 mins (foul trouble). Justin Pierce had 19 pts (7-14 FG) and 12 RBs off the bench; Chase Audige scored 16 off the bench as well and Paul Rowley had 12. The Tribe shot 50% FG (12-30 3s) and 16-20 FT.

Stats: 76.9 pts (vs 82.9); .488 FG (.370 3s); .710 FT; -0.2 RB; A/TO= 1.12

Starters (GMU)
F Paul Rowley (6-8 200 Sr). 15.3 min.; .550 FG (2-8 3s); .667 FT; 3.0 RB; 8.7 pts (3 games played)
F Nathan Knight (6-10 245 Jr). 27.5 Min.; .609 FG (4-11 3s); .837 FT; 6.5 RB; 3.3 assists; 18.3 pts
G Matt Milon (6-5 210 Jr). 29.3 min.; .460 FG (19-49 3s); .750 FT; 2.6 RB; 12.3 pts
G LJ Owens (6-3 165 Fr). 27.3 min.; .453 FG (10-25 3s); .842 FT; 1.9 RB; 9.3 pts
G Luke Lowe (6-4 190 So). 18.6 min.; .464 FG (1-9 3s); .200 FT; 1.0 RB; 3.5 pts

Bench
F Justin Pierce (6-7 200 Jr). 34.2 min.; .500 FG (13-32 3s); .594 FT; 10.8 RB; 3.8 assists; 19.0 pts (5 starts)
G Chase Audige (6-4 195 Fr). 26.1 min.; .500 FG (13-31 3s); .643 FT; 2.6 RB; 9.3 pts
G Thornton Scott (6-5 185 Fr). 20.4 min.; .409 FG (6-12 3s); .667 FT; 1.5 RB; 2.6 assists; 3.3 pts
G Jihar Williams (6-5 200 So). 9.0 min.; .222 FG (4-18 3s); .750 FT; 1.8 pts
F Merkle Harvey (6-9 210 Fr). 7.3 min.; .500 FG; .500 FT; 2.0 RB; 1.0 pts

W&M has played a tough early schedule…and come up short. Biggest shortcoming has been defense as opponents are shooting .507 FG (.398 3s). W&M was picked 4th pre-season CAA. Nathan Knight and Justin Pierce were pre-season 2nd team all-CAA. Nathan Knight was named Collegeinsider national POW for his 32 pts vs Radford and 21 vs St Joe’s (including game winner). L J Owens and Chase Audige have each earned CAA FOW honors this season.

I think this is the year the a10 gets shut out of the at-large converdation. I’m hard pressed to identify their best team. Probably St. Louis or Davidson. But they have few good OOC wins and unless VCU plans to beat Texas and Virginia on the road, I’m not sure that changes.

Its early; what the A10 has does well is it has teams that schedule tough games.

Dayton has played Butler, UVA, Ok, and Messy State. Still have Auburn. St Louis has played Butler and Seton Hall, still have Houston, FSU, and Oregon State. Davidson has played Wichita, purdue, Northeastern, and still have Temple and UNC.

I would still be surprised if they didn't get an at large team.

Agreed on their OOC scheduling (at least among the top teams; the middle and lower reaches still aim low with the exception of Richmond which has the relationships to bring name opponents like Wake Forest to their arena). But they still have to win those games and right now the best scalps are Seton Hall, Temple and Butler (x2) with a lot more losses than wins in games of consequence.

Davidson has a nice record but their biggest win is either a much-weaker-than-usual Wichita State (recent win over Baylor notwithstanding) or Northeastern. If they don't at least split (or more likely sweep) Temple and North Carolina, they're going to have to be near-perfect in the A10 to have a chance. St. Louis has the best resume with Seton Hall and Butler wins, but I think they still need to finish the OOC with no more than one loss the rest of the way, otherwise they'll have to storm through the conference schedule. VCU has the best chance for a signature win with those Texas and Virginia roadies but if they lose them both, then the rest of their schedule isn't that sexy (unless Wichita's win over Baylor is a sign that they're going to be a lot better the rest of the way than they showed in the first few weeks).

You may be right; they may end up with an at-large after all. But their margin of error is not great: Davison, St. Louis and VCU are their best chances and some things need to break their way, and the rest of the conference is not great at all (what the hell happened to George Mason, which was supposed to be a contender but have no good wins and seriously struggled against Southern and Morgan State?)

As the non-C part of the scheduling winds down it will be hard to change that. Not many big wins in the A10, cannot see VCU beating VA, and hard to imaging Shaka losing to VCU after what happened with Radford
