unlv is fast and athletic and UC barely made it through that.
UNLV shot double the amount of 3's UC did. And outshot UC by 13 at the free throw line (and it would have 20 without the fouls at the end). So not natural, just objective.

I'm not blaming the refs for anything. UC won. I said they were questionable which a lot of people seem to agree with lol.

I personally thought many of the foul calls on UC were pretty questionable and altered our approach to the game.

The refs were horrible. UNLV was in the bonus at 11min left in the half. Most of the fouls we got called for were ticky tack mumbo jumbo type calls. Like every call on Cumberland. I don’t normally complain about officiating, but Holy Christ that was bad.
I do think that UNLV was a better team than people are giving them credit for. The really pressured our guards and our inside game was lacking as interior guys had fumble fingers. They also hit some crazy 3 pt shots in key times that boosted their momentum. The place wasnt packed but it definintely got loud at times, and I think it rattled our guys.
It was embarrasing how bad our ball handling was. Can’t excuse that.
Tre Scott and Jarron Cumberland need to bring their game every night or that is what is going to happen. They aren’t used to being the man, but now they have to be the man. Logan Johnson looked like a freshman. It’s a process.
That being said, we saw some growth out of Keith Williams who was beast on the glass and hit a few wtf shots of his own. Moore hit another 3. We won even though we executed like dogshit on offense.
This team is going to lose a few games, but let’s hope we see some improvement when we do. This was a good test.

I actually thought UC got the better of the calls early in the game. Boy did that change at halftime. I told my wife that the game was in Las Vegas, so someone got a hold of the refs and told them UNLV didn't have to win, but they had to lose by less than six.

They didn't say anything, but i suspect he's fighting a bad head cold. I noticed when he came off after the 5th foul he had a big old snotter hanging from his nose. He looked lethargic out there, and you combine that with a cross country flight and it's rough. I've done it many times myself, and the next 24 or 48 hours after is a big old headache. I don't worry about him, he'll bounce back.

I read today that Cronin said Scott and Brooks didn't have one offensive rebound between them. Not good.

I agree. That one move by Williams--blowing into the lane to score, may have been the offensive play of the game for UC. He had an outstanding game. And Brooks is performing above expectations in my mind too. It's a good sign when there are players capable of stepping up on the road to deliver a win when Cumberland and Scott struggle.
Winning ugly does beat losing. I'm not convinced UNLV is very good though--picked middle of the pack in the MWC. I think what unnerves us as fans is so many games hanging in the balance until the final minute, where any number of mishaps can occur to snatch defeat from victory. Had UC made just six more shots and six fewer turnovers, it's a double digit laugher. Our guys continue to play hard all forty minutes, but often seem to lack the killer instinct to bury an opponent and then protect a lead.

Nysier Brooks, for as big as he is, looks very soft. He drops passes, gets the ball knocked out of his hands, and does not seem to be able to jump more than a couple of inches off of the ground.
He could be a good player if he would become a little more aggressive.

Road games are not easy. Its always about winning and not about how it looks. UC already has three wins away from home this year. That is a really good thing to have already have in their back pocket as winning away from is always key measure for tournament selection. UC really needs to sweep the remaining home portion of the non-conference schedule to feel good about our chances to make the tournament as opposed to being on the bubble all year.

If you put Octavius Ellis' temper into Nas Brooks' body, you have the making of a 1st-round draft pick.

Brooks has always played soft as it's my big fear as well, but i will say he has improved this year from where he was his first two years so it is possible to develop some mean streak from what i'm seeing. Still much room for intensity, but needs to do it and not foul.

Hoping the turnover issue against UNLV was an aberration. Cane clearly doesn't look comfortable at the point when pressure is applied. Logan, who has handled the ball well overall, really had problems Saturday. With Cumberland riding the bench, that doesn't leave many options for guys who are strong with the ball late in a possession type game with defensive pressure dialed up.
