Congrats 2018 MAC Champions - epasnoopy - 12-01-2018 07:12 AM

Credit to this team for not giving up and coming back in epic fashion. Childers had a career best game at the right time, if he could play like that more often this will be a good team. He seemed poised on that last touchdown drive where in past games he would turn the ball over and end any hopes of a comeback. Tears and Brown had some critical and important catches. Stepped up when it mattered most.

Credit to the defensive line in the 2nd half. Buffalo went into conservative mode and ran the ball early and often and we were stopping them for loss on multiple occasions. Watching Smith shoot through the middle and sack the Buffalo QB when he was scrambling like crazy was fun to see. He definitely got the team pumped up.

Shout out to JoeNovak (the poster not the head coach), he was the only one to keep the faith.

RE: Congrats 2018 MAC Champions - HawaiiToNIU - 12-01-2018 08:43 AM

I'm so incredibly thankful of this team and university.  I have been ecstatic since the end of the fourth quarter.  These boys and everyone involved in that program, busted their ass since day one, and now they are here.

I have such a huge personal connection with this program, as they epitomize the heart and soul of every NIU student and alumni.  We've always played the role of an underdog, many of us are from blue collar families, or many of us are the first in our families to go to college.  Heck, most of the time, people from bigger schools don't even give us the light of day.  But it doesn't matter if it's in the office or on the football field, we don't back down to anyone and give it 110%.  You always have to bring your A game when a Huskie is in the room.

Now specifically for the players.  These kids are the most humble, down to earth group and I am incredibly thankful of the culture they are a part of.  Whether that be the winning or the entire attitude of The Hard Way.  After the game, many of the players took the time to shake hands with the fans, take photos and chit chat with them.  They're big enough to play with the big boys, but not too big to be there for the fans.

For all of these reasons, I'm thankful.  I thankful to be sharing this forum of passionate fans.  For all the good and all the bad.  DeKalb, Illinois is always going to be a place I called home for 5 years.  NIU is always going to be my favorite sports team.

GOOOOOOO HUSKIES!!!!

Well said my friend! My wife and I both attended NIU and now live and work in the DC area. We feel the same way about NIU and DeKalb.

Nicely put.

I would even go so far as to say "very good."

NIU has a great football team, and has a had a great program for 2 decades now. They deserve better than MAC $ and crap ESPN weekday games. Good job last night Huskies!

Thanks for posting. That last NIU drive was a heart stopper. Get getting those third and longs, and Smith and Corcoran were playing like men possessed.

I’m right with you guys. Love this program because of the way it represents our school. Just like the team, I go into the business world with a little bit of a chip on my shoulder and a little extra to prove. For many of us “The Hard Way” just fits so well.

RE: Congrats 2018 MAC Champions - ChicagoHuskie - 12-02-2018 08:07 AM

Great post. I flow with NIU price and this post captured why. Still beaming from Friday night. I cannot get enough of reading and watching highlights of the game. There were several times that I swear I jumper 4 feet in the air in excitement. I have to say the energy in Ford Field with the Huskie crowd I thought was revved up and stayed fired up for the team. I felt proud that I think the team really appreciated us and we were all in this together. Really a special time.

Anybody know if there are high lites with the NIU radio call out there. I’d love to hear Baker in the 4th quarter and at the end. Goodbye Buffalo?

Hawaii, I was moved by your post. Really well stated, and I agree with everything you said. If I knew how to give you reputation points I would! (If anyone on here can tell me how to do that, I'd be most appreciative. I've looked everywhere on the site and can't seem to find where/how to do that. It's probably hiding in plain sight. Thx!)

Chicago is spot on: Small crowd, big energy, big noise. It was an amazing experience to be there. I was spent yesterday, but watched the game again when we got home. Great broadcast--thought the announcers were very balanced, very into the game, very insightful. Watching the game swing on the D's energy (and Corcoran's return) in the second half and the O feed off of it was really something. Not deleting that recording anytime soon!

Enjoy basking in the glow everyone. It's been an exciting, satisfying season. Proud to be a Huskie!

While the listed attendance was just over 10K I’d say it was 60/40 NIU.
And as ChicagoHuskie notes the energy of the Huskie crowd was amazing especially from that TD at the end of the 3rd Quarter and into the 4th.
Standing for every Buffalo 3rd down. And some 2nd downs!

Heck, some younger fans even started a RED-BLACK cheer that worked!

That 4th quarter was a blur and such a reversal of emotion as it was starting to feel like the Duke game early in the 3rd.

Gonna watch that 4th quarter again today...So many plays!

I agree, I am constantly surrounded by Big Ten and Ivy League kids who think they are too big for some of the work we have. Like they are meant for something greater or something. All very talented, but they don't have the relentlessness and willingness to do anything an NIU kid has. That can be said about our football players too!

If you click on the poster's reputation (on the left, in green) you should get a screen that has a "rate user" button. I don't know how you give points for a particular post though.
