WAC basketball week 4 - NMSUPistolPete - 11-26-2018 10:16 PM

UT Rio Grande Valley completes the sweep of Texas A&M Corpus Christi (68-59).

This week might be the week Chicago State gets its first win (D2 East-West) And, possibly its first D1 win (Eastern Illinois).

GCU has a good chance at taking down a MWC team (Boise State).

Cal Baptist might get its first D1 home win (Mississippi Valley State)

And, NMSU has its match ups with UTEP to complete the sweep. And, a chance to beat a P5 program at home (Washington State).

Potential WAC sweep in week 4!!

SU beats Northwest. Already played 9 games this month.

RE: WAC basketball week 4 - RunnerBall - 11-29-2018 11:44 PM

CBU up on UC Riverside by 13 at the half.

RE: WAC basketball week 4 - NMSUPistolPete - 11-30-2018 12:32 AM

Cal Baptist beat UC Riverside by 10 (80-70) on UCR's court. CBU is having a solid season for a first year D1 team.

Also, Chicago State got its first win of the season with a blowout win over East-West (90-67).

Good win for CBU. They get a couple of home games in the next week, Mississippi Valley Saturday Night and UCI on Wednesday Night. I bought a six game season ticket package and UCI will be my first game. I also got NMSU, GCU, CSUB, UVU and Seattle.

UMKC and Chicago State pick up wins over DI opponents today. UTRGV looking to beat UTA up by 8 with 1 min left in the game.

Very good wins for all three schools. UTRGV beats UTA on the road 76-65. UTA beat a solid Northern Iowa team earlier in the season.

Chicago State beating EIU 80-72 at home is obviously a good win for them. Any D1 non-conference win for them is a positive. EIU had D1 wins over Western Illinois, Gardner-Webb and Arkansas State.

UMKC beating Purdue Fort Wayne 90-73 on the road is also a good sign. PFW had three D1 wins, including a thrashing of EIU 104-60.

RE: WAC basketball week 4 - DoubleRSU - 12-01-2018 10:43 PM

I am kinda surprised that GCU played a close game with Boise St. They seem to be having an off year. What happened to make it a 2 point game?

It was a close game throughout. GCU did not play that well but they fought hard (especially the second unit) and got the victory. Lever only had 3 points and was non-existent. Milstead, Johnson, Martin, Jackson, and Frayer played well.
As for GCU having an off year, it is hard to tell at this point. NMSU barely beat UTEP (62-58) and WSU (69-63) which are both ranked way lower than Boise State. Does that mean NMSU is having an off year? Only time will tell.

Man DU sucks, losing to ex-CC UVU by 20+. Their snobby fans must be so embarrassed!

GCU bench out scored the GCU Starters by 9 or so point I believe.

The Aggies played the last two games without Eli Chuha; who is our best low post scorer and rebounder. Also, if you look at NMSU's wins, key scoring is coming from different players each night. Tonight, NMSU got 36 points from the starters and 33 from the bench. And only three players are averaging over 20 minutes a game; AJ Harris playing the most minutes at 25.2 min/game.

Also, keep in mind Boise State is only 2-5 with home wins over Jackson State (1-7) and St. Bonaventure (3-5) and a home loss to Idaho State.

What you just said about NMSU can also easily be said about GCU. No one is averaging high minutes. Frayer is playing the most minutes at 26.9. There are 6 GCU players averaging 8+ points a game with key scoring from different players each night and major contributions from the bench.
I do agree that Boise State is not the team they were last year, but NMSU has not beaten anyone of significance yet either and lost by a lot (at home) to a St. Mary's team that seems down this year. In short, I stand by my claim that only time will tell whether or not GCU is having a down year or not.
Also of note, GCU & NMSU have almost identical team stats at this point in the season. Looking forward to January 10th!!
