If he's not successful in Columbus, he'll be fired in three years. Either way, it makes sense for Fickell to bunker down at UC and wait for his dream job to open rather than lock himself into some big buyout at a P5 school.

The Day situation is similar to Lincoln Riley at OU who is getting NFL interest. If he has similar results he'll get NFL opportunities. That's going to be a hard job for Fickell to ever get. They're a top 5 program only interested in hiring guys who can win national titles. For Luke to be that guy he'd have to get us to the UCF level, which I think is a real possibility. Don't forget though that OSU can hire guys with NFL options. Hypothetically if Vrabel doesn't work at Tennessee thats a former player with a much higher profile.

Dave Clawson really impressed me in the "Coaches Film Room" broadcasts for the NY6 Bowls this year. He has been marginally successful at Wake Forest...which is pretty damn miraculous in its own right at that school

Seeing reports that BK is a top candidate for the vacant Tampa Bay Buccaneer's job.

The Athletic didn't rank the candidates and just had them all grouped together but Fickell was also listeed on their site.

"Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell is close geographically and just went 11-2 in his second season. Fickell has spent his entire coaching career in Ohio, and recruiting that state would surely be part of the pitch. Former Ohio State president Gordon Gee is now the WVU president, so there’s a tie there."

You'd think Schiano would have scared them of of trying that. Not that BK is the same (I'd be willing to take a shot at him with the Bengals).

Absolutely no way BFDF leaves Cincinnati for WVU. When will the media learn that it is easier to win at UC than the vast majority of other FBS programs? Racking up 10+ wins per year is much less of an accomplishment at UC than somewhere like App State, Troy, and even the UKs and WVUs of the world. We simply outmatch everyone in our conference (minus maybe UCF) in terms of resources and recruiting territory.

Butch Jones was merely competent, and managed to win big here... Brian Kelly took us to 2 BCS bowls and a #3 ranking, and has struggled to do much better at Notre Dame even with endless resources and 5-star talent.

These media pundits act like winning at UC is a huge challenge, but it is WAY harder to win at places like Vanderbilt and Wake Forest, as well as pretty much every other non-blue blood program. We have loads of underrated local talent at our disposal, and an easier schedule than anyone in the P5.

Don't get me wrong, BFDF's rapid turnaround is quite impressive. And once we rejoin a P5 conference, it will be much harder to win 10+ games here... but for the time being, winning lots of games here doesn't make you the next Knute Rockne or Bear Bryant. The media and other athletic directors need to recognize this.

Gee is pushing hard for LF. Our AD wants Brown. I'm fairly positive that Brown is the guy though and I think he's the better fit for us.

Why is the great Schiano not up for any of these jobs?

No way is Fickell going anywhere that doesn't have a big, athletically-competitive Catholic high school for his kids to attend. I don't know the man, but from what I've read of him, I'd guess that's very important.

Seems like a handful of college football coaches are being targeted by NFL teams. I've seen Brian Kelly, Dan Mullen and Matt Rhule's names out there on several lists.

I'd be stunned if Fickell seriously entertained the WVU job. Just a bad fit all the way around IMO.

P.S. This also rules out at least half of the P5. There really aren't too many places that have schools like Moeller, Elder, X, etc. nearby.

Especially given that so many - even in the Big Ten - are in college towns with only a few high schools......

I would agree with your AD... Brown seems the better fit and would probably have more success at WVU than Fickell. I think WVU and UC would both benefit if Gee takes the backseat in this and lets your AD do his job.

$10M/yr???? For Kelly?????
.........

David Haugh of 670 The Score in Chicago reports that the Bucs have interest in Brian Kelly.

Kelly, 57, has coached the Irish since 2010. He has been linked in the past to NFL openings, interviewing with the Eagles in 2013, when they hired Oregon coach Chip Kelly. It’s unclear whether he’s interested in coaching the Bucs.

Per Haugh, the Bucs may be willing to offer upwards of $10 million per year to Kelly. Tampa also has been linked to Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh.

lulz...that guy should take any offer because he can't keep getting skull dragged by Ohio State and keep his job at Michigan, no matter where they are ranked.
