Kent State @ Vanderbilt - fallsdog - 11-23-2018 08:33 AM

The Flashes are in Nashville Tennessee getting ready for a 4PM tip against the Vanderbilt Commodores. Vandy is 4-0 on the season with wins over Winthrop, Alcorn State, Liberty and the USC Trojans.

The Commodores are big and they share the ball. Five players are averaging 10ppg or more including 6'10/240 pound freshman Simosola Shittu, 6'8/210 pound junior Matt Ryan and 6'7/210 pound senior Joe Toye. Ryan, a Notre Dame transfer, and Toye have both played in 30 or more games in each season of the NCAA careers.

The backcourt is a less experienced but ultra talented with 6'2 freshman Darius Garland and 6'2 sophomore Saben Lee running the show. Garland is a Nashville native who won the Tennessee Mr. Basketball award three years in a row while at Brentwood Academy. Lee started 29 games for Vandy last year and averaged about 10 points per game.

Not the scouting report I was hoping for but it will be fun to see how the Flashes stack up. Vandy is coming off a pretty lousy season so it isn't like Kent State is playing in Rupp against UK.

I get the feeling, though, that this Commodore team has some decent expectations. For KSU, move the ball, stay out of early foul trouble and head to the locker room within striking distance. Anything after that is leftover gravy!

GO FLASHES!

Garland is sicko good.

And I just looked. He is averaging 20 ppg as a freshman in his 1st 4 games.

Looks like Frederick is out tonight. So even less size than normal. Hopefully he's not out long. Guessing it's because of his fall where he hit his head late against Savannah.

So far so good. Up 7 @ half. Walker is back and his offensive game is on point tonight.

RE: Kent State @ Vanderbilt - anti-zip - 11-23-2018 05:54 PM

Heck of a first half. Good to see Walker back and playing well. Some good defense and effort from Duling in the first half too.

Great compete and great effort for two halves. Glad to have you back Walker. Let's build off of this. 04-cheers

A KSU KO. Nice win

RE: Kent State @ Vanderbilt - Muskrat - 11-23-2018 07:11 PM

I thought the only way Kent State could win that game would be by shooting 50% from the floor. They didn't (44.6%), but made up for that by hitting a decent 75% from the line and a terrific 50% behind the arc. Great job. I think I'll be making my long drive (80 miles) to Kent more this winter than I first thought I would.

Not jumping on any KSU bandwagon ... yet.

But you have to ask yourself what coach in the MAC has more BCS wins under their belt than the guy many think is always on the hot seat at KSU???

Particularly non-conference.

That includes Hawkins, Gross, Oats and Phillips (even adding time in Dakota) and TK (including Green Bay).

I was all hung up on WVU vs Oklahoma and/or Avon vs Hoban. But two martinis later I don’t gaf about either. That was an excellent game to listen to by the Christmas Tree. CJ Williamson can ball!!

Gotta give Sendy and staff a lot of credit. At the end of last season we had one serious roster flaw and it seemed like we'd have to live with it for another year. Then our top JUCO recruit flips to a PAC12 school. Them going out and finding Williams and Williamson that late in the game is really impressive.

Completely agree. Many programs would be scraping the bottom after what we lost in personnel, but Sendy remade this team into at least one that can be competitive. They even look better than that.

Big kudos for the game coaching job tonight. Sendy had to play chess because of match ups. We are small but we can play with pace. This team is fun to watch when it is hitting on all cylinders. The youth is fitting in well.

Good to beat a power conference team on the road (I guess we only play them on the road). Sure feel a lot better than I did after watching that Liberty game.
