If we can't fix our problems on Defense so we're not a sieve, I'd just as soon we skip the bowl game. You have to have standards.

I live in Houston and Dallas is about 3 hours away, a noon kickoff, if tickets are reasonable, I may consider it..........but probably not

Sounds reasonable. I elect you to be the one to tell players like Keenoy and Bogan, thanks for all your blood, sweat and tears in your career as a Bronco but we are turning down a bowl bid.

Good point WMUPorter!

RE: 2018 Bowl - GullLake - 11-18-2018 09:28 PM

No apologies are necessary for accepting a bowl bid.

A generation ago, WMU had two consecutive MAC runner-ups which did not appear in bowl games. Very good teams. This Dallas bowl would have looked pretty good to those players back then.

RE: 2018 Bowl - Motown Bronco - 11-18-2018 09:41 PM

San Diego State and WMU in a bowl in Dallas would amount to a midweek MACtion-style attendance. SDSU is similar to us in a lot of ways: Had a big win streak toward the middle of the season, and then fell apart.

I don't think we should ever turn down a bowl. Under any circumstance. But this one will have rock bottom interest and enthusiasm from our base, going in at 6-6 riding a four game losing skid.

CFN now has us against Virginia in Detroit

I agree -- we should NEVER turn down a bowl bid. A lot of these 6-6 or 7-5 in bowls will have very little interest. However, it provides exposure to our school and our football program. Five years from now when a coach points out all our prior bowl games at Waldo Stadium to a recruit do you think they will every recall that season?

RE: 2018 Bowl - brovol - 11-19-2018 06:56 AM

If there are any abundance of bowl eligible teams I am willing to bet that we will not be bowling at all.

RE: 2018 Bowl - brovol - 11-19-2018 06:57 AM

....quick lane Bowl I the ONLY bowl which might see us as attractive for any reason

RE: 2018 Bowl - BroncoMD - 11-19-2018 08:51 AM

Does the MAC choose who is going bowling or is it by bowl invitation only? I know the MAC is tied into certain bowl games -- Ohio, Toledo, and Buffalo should be above us for a bowl invite but we should beat out EMU and Miami. Obviously, we'll have to wait and see what happens tomorrow with NIU.

Not sure why we would beat out EMU or Miami.

We beat them both on the field -- I would assume you would use head to head match-ups as a tie breaker.

I am pretty sure the bowls decide, and use whatever they want in terms of criteria. Both EMU and Miami have played better to end the season, and frankly, would likely send more fans to the game, as WMU fans are pretty down on the season at this point. If we beat NIU that would change things, but fat chance of that happening.

RE: 2018 Bowl - Motown Bronco - 11-19-2018 11:00 AM

Indeed, bowls don't care about head to head results. Even at the P5 level, bowl organizers chase after the biggest bandwagons.

Miami and EMU appear to be ending their seasons on "up" notes, and therefore has more buzz and is an easier sell (however marginal that would be). EMU also has a B1G win on their resume. Losing our last 4 games and firing a coordinator waters down our marketability, unfortunately.

90% of the bowls look like MACtion attendance

If the MAC choose bowling WMU would have been in a bowl last year. Once the MAC primary Bowl tie ins are complete the MAC has little input

If WMU gets invite they are going. Or they can count on losing commits in two weeks.

RE: 2018 Bowl - GRBRONCO - 11-19-2018 11:32 AM

WMU needs a win against NIU to get a bowl in my opinion, we would be the least attractive 6 win team in the country with our performance down the stretch.
