It's a new day, CBU. Prepare for a South Memphis Street Beatdown!

It will be interesting seeing our response to CBU’s deliberate style. I expect defensive breakdowns which will be useful to know and correct before the start of real games.

I agree. I assume we will see some zone as well. LO zoned us for a minute, but it didn’t seem very effective. It will be interesting to see what we look like when a better team throws a different look at us.

Please may we be so blessed by having someone throw up a Facebook or YouTube live stream for those of us living in in the Netherlands outside Memphis. Please Please Please!

Bless you that did so last week.

If Wingett and Harris can shoot like we have heard they can, that zone will be busted in no time.

I found this gem from Josh Pastner after we dropped an exhibition game to CBU in 2014. I think that was the beginning of the end for JP in Memphis.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for us to right the ship (Tuesday),” Pastner said. “I’ve said this many times: At no time has a ship been at sea and got to land without some tough, rough waters along the way. So we’re gonna have to navigate through it.

“We’re gonna be better. Look, I hope the fans are upset. They should be upset. They should criticize me. The media should criticize me. I got no issue with that. I gotta take it right on the chest. That being said, I do feel let’s hold overall judgment on the team until we’re playing countable games.”

I try to act like the Pastner era never happened.

Really, I was having some bad flashbacks reading that.

He was the absolute worst at interviews. So much coach speak and he'd say the same phrases over and over. Watching Penny actually answer questions in a direct manner is so refreshing.

RE: ***Official Memphis vs CBU Game Thread*** (11/2) - Keeper - 11-02-2018 10:56 AM

it wasn't the CBU loss that turned me against Pastner, it was the fact that his teams never won a game against very good talent. His recruiting classes were always ranked very high yet they never competed well against teams at or a little below their level. He was a bad coach, a lousy motivator, and not a very good person. It got so I could not stand to be in the same gym with him. I never stopped supporting the Tigers. I just started watching them on TV more, and never in person. Of course this is simply my opinion.

That, while a bit over dramatic, was not anywhere close to his best coach speak and the last sentence was very on point.

C'mon Keeper, he did win some big games. He beat a Top 10 Louisville twice in one year. They beat a ranked Oklahoma State in the same year. And wins against ranked SMU and Gonzaga teams. Yes he did lose to good programs at the end and that's why fans turned on him. I wasn't a big Pasnter fan either but he did win a lot his first 4 years or so when we had the 4 Kings. The Tigers were bad his last two years for sure.

My two faults with Pastner is that at the end he constantly brought up the programs two probation's to explain away his failure to be the only coach that failed to get the Tigers to the Sweet 16 that stayed longer than 2 years and he never address his weaknesses. Even Roy Williams recognize that he's a better recruiter than a floor coach.

I don’t remember seeing Roy say that. He’s right though and even now his recruiting isn’t what it once was. When did Roy say that?

Yeah I hope so. Tyler shot it well against the Magicians.

Roy admitted this while recruiting Leslie McDonald. I sat in front of him with some coaches while at a game once. He admitted recruiting was his strength.
