That is all.

We'll see... Southern, Ar State, and Troy are still in our future.

We play anything like we did today, you'll having nothing to worry about Tuesday.

Our defense doesn’t make any spectacular plays, but they are extremely discipline, fundamentally sound, and we make teams earn every yd.

If you don't steamroll those two, then that just means you're not as good as we all thought.

The SBC East's average Massey Composite rating is 67. That's higher than than the AAC and Mountain West.

Not bad for a division where 4 of the 5 teams were FCS just 6 years ago.

RE: Beasts of the East - EagleNationRising - 10-07-2018 02:55 PM

Obviously the new teams brought in are trying to right the blatant wrongs of the old Sunbelt regime.

Just had to look it up

I didn’t remember Ga St ever being FCS

They played a few seasons in the CAA after they started the football program and Bill Curry coached them.

Isn't it an NCAA rule that any new DI football program has to start off at FCS for the transition even if the intent is an FBS program? I think UAB got an exception because they were restarting their program.

UTA and Little Rock (for example) could start an FBS team right away because they're in an FBS conference.. The issue has been in the past that you can't join FBS without a conference invite. Of course, Liberty seems to have upended that.

I'm referring to the rule that a new program has to play 2 years in FCS, transitioning to FBS. I don't think a new program can just start playing FBS in their first year. For example, if Wichita State started a program, I believe they'd have to play in the FCS for two years, likely as an independent, before playing in the AAC.

I think they would be fcs independent for the first year of transition. Then sunbelt for the 2nd transitional year.

Sort of. If you start a program from scratch and intend to move straight to FBS, you play your first two seasons as an unclassified program. First year is mostly JUCO's and D2 schools. 2nd year is mostly D2 schools with a couple NAIA and FCS.

Year 3 you begin the transition by playing a year as an FCS independent. Those teams are eligible to play FBS schools for the first time, but play an 11 game schedule of mostly FCS teams.

Year 4 the school is classified as FBS, and plays a full FBS schedule including conference slate. They are required to adhere to FBS scholarship rules etc at that point. Like all first year FBS, they are not eligible for a bowl game that year.

South Alabama started football for first time in December 2007. Their first season was in 2009, and they began a full SBC schedule in 2012, with bowl eligibility beginning in 2013.

Essentially the difference between a start up program moving straight to FBS and an established FCS moving up is an additional 2 years

With enough money and morally vapid leadership, anything is possible.
