Bowl projections 2018-19 - cnyrocketfan - 09-24-2018 06:36 AM

Seems late to be starting this thread (I think we usually start it in January or February, soon after the bowls are over. Seems like some sites start making their guesses that early03-lmfao). But if we already have one for this season, I couldn't find it.

Anyway, one guy from ESPN has UT going to the Camellia Bowl in Mobile to meet Georgia Southern, the other has Toledo in the Frisco Bowl in Texas to face Houston.

http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/24773646/college-football-bowl-projections-week-4

cbssports.com has UT in the Frisco Bowl too, also against Houston

https://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/bowls/predictions

sbnation says the Frisco Bowl against Memphis -

https://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2018/9/23/17892018/bowl-projections-2018-bowls-games-college-football-playoff-predictions

USA Today says the Rockets are going to the Bahamas to face Florida Atlantic (this is from last week, before the Nevada game)

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2018/09/18/bowl-projections-penn-state-back-college-football-playoff-field/1344604002/

From Bleacher Report in August (couldn't find anything more recent on that site). Says Rockets will face Troy in the Camellia Bowl. Also a nice paragraph about Diontae and a couple of guys from Buffalo. Just after that is a comment about Fresno State (I didn't paste that here)

"Elsewhere, both Buffalo and Toledo will draw the attention of NFL scouts to whichever bowls they're in—provided they each win enough #MACtion games to become eligible. Anthony Johnson (Buffalo) and Diontae Johnson (Toledo) ranked first and second in 2017 receiving yards among returning players, and Buffalo has a giant at quarterback (6'7" Tyree Jackson) who will get a ton of mock-draft love if he can stay healthy."

RE: Bowl projections 2018-19 - Rocket A - 09-24-2018 08:47 AM

Frisco Bowl against Houston or Memphis would be cool. Could help the Rockets with recruiting the State of Texas, assuming they don't lay an egg like the last bowl game.

I seem to recall pay-out issues with the Frisco Bowl. Or was that the one in some high school stadium?

I agree though, something different against someone different. Be nice.

20,500 seat soccer stadium with a $200,000 payout. I believe the payout is double from last season. Boca Raton Bowl is a $1,000,000 payout. Dollar General $1,500,000. Quick Lane Bowl $750,000.

Whatever bowl we get I hope it's during bowl week. I'd love to be able to go!

RE: Bowl projections 2018-19 - Michigan Rocket - 09-25-2018 02:06 PM

Too many stupid Bowl Games. Teams not in a New Years Six Bowl Game probably lose money. If there are (40) Bowl Games, then that means (80) out of (118) teams are in a Bowl Game including some 5-7 teams. It's like getting a Participation Medal. I hope we don't go to The Bahamas Bowl. Stupid dirt field in the middle of a track.

Projections from ESPN after week 5 -

One guy says the Bahamas Bowl against Marshall, the other says back to Mobile to face Appalachian State Ahhhh

RE: Bowl projections 2018-19 - cnyrocketfan - 10-01-2018 06:49 AM

guy from cbssports.com still says it will be the Rockets against Houston in the Frisco Bowl -

If they put us against App St again, I say it should be only played if it’s a paintball contest.

RE: Bowl projections 2018-19 - Springboromark - 10-02-2018 08:00 PM

I wonder what App St fans would say? Why? They are not on the same page with us.

From ESPN after week 6, both guys say it will be the Bahamas for UT. One says it will be against The Thundering Herd, the other says against Alabama-Birmingham -

http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/24922695/college-football-bowl-projections-week-6

USA Today also says the Bahamas but against Florida Atlantic -

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2018/10/09/bowl-projections-big-changes-below-college-football-playoff-field/1567618002/

I like any of these options. Granted, I don't think we'll get a good turnout in Bahamas, but still nice.

FAU and UAB, would those be new opponents? Marshal would be a good. I just do not recall a team dramatically improving over the course of a seaon in the areas in which UT needs to improve, in order to compete. Special teams, offensive skills, these I've seen improve. But line?

Homefully the coaches are up to it.

2004 Rockets MAC Champs lost to Minnesota 63-21 and Kansas 63-14 first two games and turned it around.

Truth in advertising might say add: that team beat a very weak MAC then got stomped in their bowl game by Connecticutt.

If you remember Bruce G, 6th round NFL pick, broke his hand in the MACC. Marques Council replaced Bruce after the first half against UConn. Not the same team without a healthy Bruce. Now that's truth in advertising.

That's truth also and hardly the only all-timer on that team. They really struggled without G's defense though. 03-wink
Toledo 0 7 3 0 10
Connecticut 17 13 3 6 39

It was 30-7 at the half. You sure G left at the half? Council had a pretty decent day with a 91 rating.

MAC was 2-3 in bowl games, not the worst ever.

Toledo punted something like 8 times, gave up 2 sacks on 4th Down, 3 turnovers(2 that ended in Huskie scores), and a UConn TD on a Rocket punt, Bruce had a QBR of 28 and Council 24.

Huh, the boxscore I just read had Council at 91. Found it. Eh, 2 ints. Not sure why it's saying 91. Found a wiki for the game. He did do a good job on his first drive and MOST of the second :) but UT was getting handled long before G went out.

Haven't dropped out of ESPN's projections despite the loss to Eastern. One guy still says the Bahamas, the other says Detroit is the destination.
