Marcus Childers - I'm Trying... - NIU32 - 09-15-2018 12:04 PM

Trying my best to feel better about Childers, as hard as it may be. Try watching his HS highlights, I'm not going to lie, it helped a just a little. Hopfully the kid gets it going this week and gets a little confidence going into this FSU game. We can beat them, they look baaaaad. If there was ever a time to knock off FSU at FSU, this is the year

With a D1 qb we could have beaten Iowa and Utah as well.

Sigh..

For Childers to improve and have opportunities, head coaching needs to improve. Not many plays to be made out there. The actual QB matters not, if coaching continues to be this awful

Yes, but like I just mentioned in another thread, check out his weapons the last 2 games...our TE is a backup OT who is 300+ lbs who has barely played in his career here and at a new position, and our WR corps are a majority of freshman with no experience going up against 2 pretty damn good P5 defenses... I re-watched both games a few times, nobody could get open. Childers wasn't good at all, but its not 100% on him. Tears being back should help a ton

Are we on TE #3 now? After losing our best TE to graduation?

RE: Marcus Childers - I'm Trying... - NIU32 - 09-15-2018 12:30 PM

Dale Brown has been our TE the last 2 weeks...this is what we are working with...

Wimann graduated, Crawford tore his ACL in spring ball, and Brinkmann got hurt the week before the opener and is out till midseason

There is no doubt that losing Wimann has had the biggest impact of any graduation loss from last season

Toledo QB making throws all over the field to his receivers.

It sort of helps when you have 4 targets better than any 1 receiver on the Huskies, and an offense willing to open it up.

Someone forgot to tell the Toledo offense that they're playing a P5 defense.

Toledo has a group of NFL receivers, you can play with anyone when you have NFL talent at playmaking positions. That is what NIU lacks right now, playmakers. I am not sure that is a mistake, Carey does not like aggressive play calling, I think a lack of playmakers is more into the wheel house of a Carey led offense. Less turnover potential

Toledo always has WRs and a QB.

Miami's defense did not look too hot against Samford. I see that Iowa State has 24 points on Oklahoma with 5 mins left in the 3rd Q. Iowa held them to 3 points. I am hoping that the Iowa and Utah defenses were even better than we thought.

You're thinking of Florida State-Samford. But I doubt our offense scores as many as Samford did against FSU.

Yeah, the MAC is in trouble the next several years. The Toledo QB is worthy of the hype

Now a very efficient running QB on top of all that, gulp

Its pretty clear NIU is not just one notch below Toledo with offensive talent and talent at skilled positions especially, but several notches.

RE: Marcus Childers - I'm Trying... - NIU007 - 09-15-2018 01:48 PM

Toledo normally has a good Oline too but I think ours is just as good. We have the running game. We just need the passing game.

RE: Marcus Childers - I'm Trying... - MaddDawgz02 - 09-15-2018 01:51 PM

Toledo Offense + NIU Defense = Alabama Crimson Tide

Agree about NIU offensive line being just as good as Toledo (or maybe better). What the problem is for NIU, none of the units live in a bubble. An ineffective passing game and lack of WR threats, make it just 10 times harder to effectively block. When you neglect positions like Carey has done with QB and WR, it has a damaging effect down the line and you negate some of your strengths (such as offensive line and defense as a whole). Carey uses his strengths on his team not to win games, but as a crutch to cover up the deficiencies and to minimize the damage from the deficiencies. Not a winning mentality.
