Lawrence Garner, who entered the game in the top 10 in tackles with 27, had 15 yesterday. Dude just seems to have a nose for the ball.

LaLa showed he has the best vision of any back (who has played) on the team as a true freshman. At times, he looked like a Ray clone. I mean, I could watch runs like this all day;

OShane got another sack and should have had more, if not for pourous pass coverage.

Duhart is a star. And Fulgham should have had a TD. It's a shame they both keep running beautiful routes but can't get a ball thrown in arms length.

Really? I appreciate the effort but somehow showing the three positive plays from that turd sundae wrings hollow. There isn't enough whipped cream in the world. 03-banghead

Yes, really. As I already stated, there are more than enough posts covering the failures of BW and staff.

LaLa averaged 6.3 yards per carry in his first game.

Lawrence Garner is averaging 14 tackles per game.

OShane is showing why he's likely to be our first player drafted.

Duhart had 127 yards receiving yesterday and is averaging 120 per game.

That's all worth highlighting.

If you want to dwell on the negatives, be my guest. But you don't need to @ me for highlighting the dudes putting in work.

Kudos for posting the highlights as I don't bother with twitter much. At this point being a fan I'm looking for the silver lining in positions and self improvements in players now.

No, they beat UAB of all teams last season

Geez......we were 3-5 in conference in 2016 and 2 of the 5 losses were by 1 point.

I hope Williams settles down now that this is his team.

After watching these 3 games over again, I blame the players not the coaches. Too many mental breakdowns in all 3 games.

Jeremy Cox is too slow. Defensive linemen are much faster than him.

No 2nd helpings for the O-line. They look too plump.

Are some players staying up all night before a game? Lack of sleep can have a drastic effect on performance. Are they allowed to keep their cell phones with them? If they are, that’s a problem.

Ten years ago, Alabama got beat by a Sun Belt school. Sure, we’re not Alabama but I think it’s fair to say this program will have bad seasons every now and then.

I'm not counting this one just yet.

Keep calm and Go Monarchs. We'll see ya'll next week.

1. Weather delays don't cause you to lose games.

2. This is not Williams' team by any stretch of the imagination.

3. Coaches are supposed to coach the mental part of this game as well as the physical.

4. The run game is too simplistic. It wouldn't matter how fast the back was, watching film would tell our opponents that the probability of up the gut on a run is extremely high.

5. O-Line is supposed to be svelte?

6. I don't see the coaches taking their phones from them. And they shouldn't.

7. It's y'all, not ya'll.

This team is in need of a major shake up and soon.

In my defense I point out a couple of posts later that I blanked on your 2016 season.

Even after the LU game, I figured we likely win vs FIU, UNCC, ECU, WKU, VMI, and Rice and go to a bowl.

We already lost to FIU.
We already lost to UNCC.
I now I feel we have no chance vs ECU.
WKU is way too strong with the pass, which is our weakness.
We will win vs VMI.
We could steal from Rice if we improve since it is our last game, but the Owl strength is also the pass.

So, the good news is that we could go 2-10 and not make a bowl! 04-rock
The bad news is that we could go 1-11 and not make a bowl. 03-weeping

agree, no reason to pick on players, especially personal traits. strengths and weaknesses as players, I think ok

Wow! Players no! But there is no excuse for the coaching. Bad performances should be recognized and discussed. Harry should stay out of this one and stop telling people what can and can’t be said. But clearly there is some bias here as he now gets paid by ODU.

Might want to read that again, he said coaches (and himself) are fair game to criticism.

Minium gets his pay check from ODU now so I don't expect him to be completely candid. He's no longer a reporter. I would however, if any way possible, love to hear his thoughts on Wilders coaching ability at the FBS level.

Think that will ever happen?

RE: Game 3: ODU at Charlotte - bigblueodu - 09-14-2018 12:20 PM

I had a hamburger the other day. The pickles were crisp and spicy, the bun was fresh and thick, the ketchup was perfect... the meat however was rotten and riddled with salmonella, listeria and bovine tuberculosis. As I sit here in the hospital getting fluids and medicine I plan to focus on the crisp pickles.
Sounds like some of our rose colored football fans!

Lost by 3. Missed a PAT, and 2 2 pt conversions. That's tough. Did something happen with Rice? One blocked PAT and we start going for 2 point conversions?

RE: Game 3: ODU at Charlotte - 12thmonarch - 09-14-2018 12:21 PM

I wouldn't condone blasting kids after all they are there because the coaches decided to put them in. Leave them out but go at the coaches how ever you like because they deserve it.

RE: Game 3: ODU at Charlotte - Cyniclone - 09-14-2018 12:30 PM

I know we've had this conversation already, but I think players' performances are definitely open for criticism. I don't like this expectation some have of giving college athletes Summer Olympics treatment when they succeed and Special Olympics treatment when they fail. Their professors don't treat them like that. Their parents don't. Why should we? They're adults that gladly accept the spotlight when things go well. Why do they revert to being abused children when things don't?

If we're talking about personally insulting them, that I can buy. But if the quarterback is a liability or the defensive back is defending lackadaisically, I think that's fair game. Play the ball, not the player.

That's what I thought at first but they went for a kick on the last TD. So either Wilder regained confidence in the kicking game, lost even MORE confidence in his offense's ability to gain three yards, or tried to get too cute with his strategy. Maybe all three.

To be clear, there is a huge difference and a line not to cross when criticizing a player and his/her ability/play versus their personal attributes.

I do not think it is, or should be, off limits to say Williams is simply not ready or able to be a starting QB for this team. I don't know him personally and if I did, that would still be the extent of my criticism. The game is too fast and demands too much accuracy and he has not shown the ability to keep up.

If HM, or anyone else thinks that is bashing a kid, then PM and we can chat directly. Hell, I think the same rule should apply to coaches, reporters, admins or anyone else. I am not making commentaries on how they chose to live their life, because quite frankly, I don't care. I do care about the product that is put out as a representation of OUR university. HYPOTHETICALLY, if BW wanted to drink himself silly, our commentary should still be about ow this team seemed to lack heart at end of games and not about his personal shortcomings (again...only used hypothetically).

Sorry Bobby you don’t need mental toughness to take beatings. The mental toughness should manifest itself in being able to focus, know your job and execute when you face adversity. This is a symptom of not seeing a problem.

To that point, if anyone — coaches, staffers or players — were to knowingly do something that brought shame to the program, then I think all bets are off. If BW shows up to a coaches' show blitzed off his arse or a starter gets a DUI or drunk and disorderly, then that's absolutely fair game. They're in the public eye, which means they get both the blessings and the curses of that distinction.

RE: Game 3: ODU at Charlotte - BigBlue23 - 09-14-2018 12:48 PM

I was just using it as an example. In the end, criticizing the starting QB for not making basic reads or basic throws is not a personal attack.
