Eight-Man Football - EPJr2 - 09-03-2018 01:11 PM

Several schools in Virginia have decided to not field teams this year and others are struggling to get numbers. The VHSL is considering adding 8-man football as a option.

High school eight-man football

Of the 30 states that sponsor the 1,161 eight-man teams in the nation, teams are categorized by "class", "division", or "districts" with sub-conferences within each. States elect to use an either playoff system, a "bowl game" format (Jamboree), or for states with few eight-man teams, no official postseason is organized, instead electing for "Conference Champions".

Do any of you posters from other states have any experience with this?
If so how was it?

I grew up in Oregon and the lowest division plays 8 man footballl with a playoff.
Currently 40 schools play 8 man. Starting this season, a pilot program for 6 man is starting with 16 schools. Mainly very small towns with low school enrollment.
