Quote:Mexico and the United States are hammering out the final details of a bilateral deal to revise the North American Free Trade Agreement, according to people familiar with the state of negotiations. A formal announcement is expected Monday.

Under the revised terms of the agreement, 75 percent of a car would have to be manufactured in North America, up from 62.5 percent under current rules, according to a person familiar with the talks. The new rules would also impose a sort of minimum wage for car makers, requiring that workers earn a minimum of $16 per hour to qualify for zero tariffs.

Witness more winning here!!!!

Trump negotiated this deal so smoothly, even a Ferengi would be impressed.

As such, let's never forget the 42nd Rule of Acquisition:

Only negotiate when you are certain to profit.

LOL. 75% of the car must be manufactured in NORTH AMERICA. I suspect Morena just got what he wanted for Mexican autoworkers and autosuppliers.

The minimum wage part is big.

It would be great if there was some movement on textiles as well.

Proof the useful idiots parrot MSM as soon as the talking points are issued. Think for yourself and explain, to everyone sitting on pins and needles waiting for your answer, just how this deal is worse for Americans?

Win, win deal. Best type of negotiation.

Agree, the best way to deal with illegal immigration from mexico is to help mexico improve their standard of living, this certainly helps.

Tom's problem with the new deal is that there's zero wording about alphabet people. Try to keep up.

We make the best trade deals, don't we folks?

I thought the market best set the wage and a forced minimum wage would actually do more damage than good? Surely, you're not saying it will raise the standard of living in Mexico?

So much MAGA. Trump might make Mexico great. Not again but for the first time

When working a trade deal there needs to be set rules. Equalizing the minimum wage playing field helps make the US more attractive while also doing the social good of helping end slave wages in third world countries

Is that not a win win?

I imagine a rising standard of living in Mexico scares the living crap out of you leftists as there'd be less need for undocumented democrats to be crossing the border to vote in the United States and looking for gubmint handouts.

I could be mistaken but I think that also includes workers in Mexico. So yeah it will raise the standard of living in Mexico for those auto workers.

The market does best set the wage. Tariffs were used to offset the difference in wages and production costs in lower wage countries like mexico. If Mexico wants the tariffs removed, they have to work to eliminate the wage discrepancy. Mexico wants to keep the auto plants while eliminating the tariffs the US imposes so they are raising wages. Guess what that is? It's the market setting the wage.
